I almost...

Ordered a copy of Vista Home Premium 64 Bit with a view to installing it to replace Win XP Pro.

Almost.

I'm using a Creative X-Fi Audio Extreme card atm which really does sound very very good with my 5.1 speaker setup.

I took a look at the Creative Forums, all the posts talking about Vista:eek:

Then I looked elsewhere

And then I browsed this here Forum looking for views on Vista

Not yet, Billy Boy, not yet, maybe when the first SP is out and Creative have sorted out their driver issues, but no, not for now.

My main machine is used mainly for work stuff and Gaming. Ok, mostly gaming :)

I honestly don't want to take the risk right now.

Anybody like to speak of their gaming experience within Vista?

List of installed games I have atm on main machine: HL2; HL2 Epsiode One; Bioshock; Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion; CoD1; CoD1 United Offensive; CoD2; CIV 4 + Warlords; Call Of Juarez; Dark Messiah Of Mage & Magic; Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 + 2 expansion packs; UT2004; NFS Underground 2; NFS Most Wanted; Microsoft Flight Simulator X; FEAR; FEAR Extraction Point.

Anybody successfully running any of those on Vista?

And is anybody using a Creative X-Fi card with games in Vista?

I have played all of those games on Vista, without problems. I was nervous that none of my games would work, because of what I heard, but it seems that it was all just a load of BS.

I won't speak to gaming, but I will say:

Hi, Floppy, good to see you!

    hey floppy :)

I game on vista, and while I don't have "major" problems, i will say that my computer was faster with XP. Little things, like load times, etc. I want to go back to XP, but I spent money on Vista, so I'm gritting my teeth and bearing it.

    You made the right choice

    Hi all :)

    Hmm - interesting.

I know Bioshock works ok and mostly the Audigy 2 cards work ok, and I'm still tempted but I guess I'll be waiting a while longer.

This is the brief spec, btw:

    Asus P5B Deluxe sli
    Core 2 duo 6600 stock at 2.4Ghz
    Zalman CNPS8000 cooler
    2Gb OCZ PC2 6400C4
    BFG 8800GTS 640Mb
    X-Fi Audio Extreme
    2 x 75Gb Raptors in RAID 0
    1 x Samsung 250Gb SATA II

You think Vista would slow down performance?

Vista is a pig. You need more ram and more hardware to run as fast as XP generally speaking.

I still think Vista is cool but I don't game.
