    GHoosdum had this to say
Right now it's running on a fresh install of XP, then SP1, then nVidia nf2 unified drivers, then Windows Update, then DX9, then Catalyst driver.

The video card is a Sapphire Radeon 9500 128MB (the one based on the 9700 PCB).

Well, that's an 8x AGP card, so make sure that is the first setting you try, otherwise, back it of to 4x.

With 1024 MB system RAM, you could try a 128 MB hole for the Radeon, if it is already there, back it off to 64 MB and see what happens.

Also, which version of the Catalyst driver are you running? Are you aware of this thread:

Completely different system I know but anyways, my Intel system with 9800XT - I changed AGP hole from 128 to 64 to test last night and benchmark results dropped. Not huge, but ran several to test and all fell.

    Your mileage may vary

Well I've been running on the new PS for 3 hours now and no lock ups. Here's hoping this will work.

Is it time for S-M Lan yet?

Nope, no iTunes. Nothing made by Crapple ever goes near any of our PCs!

I'm pretty certan that we all have quick time on our systems... Unfortunately

Well I made it four whole hours without a lockup. Ah and then right when I was about to celebrate my comp locks up!! Whoo Hoo!!:banghead:

So it's not the Memory or powersupply. The only thing I can think of is a slightly defective MoBo. Which would be the third such bad MoBo I've gotten from NewEgg. I love them so!!!

    Why me??

Um, heatsink compound used on CPU??? Which and how much-- you need to use only a little bit....

John, For the time being, it's running on the stock heatsink, crap pad and all. Temps don't rise above 41C with it anyway. He's still waiting for SVC to ship him his SLK900A.

Oh, and CB, here's a little tip: Kill QuickTime. No, It's most definitely not on my system!

Joe, how did it lock up this time? Beep code or just a frozen OS? And I'm tellin' ya, the other two motherboards were installed improperly and shorted to the case. ID10T error. OK, just razzin' ya. But it is easy to short out the mobo to the case when you're using the metal risers and screws, especially on the ECS mobos that you got.

As it has every other time it started as a frozen OS, and then after pressing a few keys on the keyboard and clicking the mouse a few times just to make sure it really was locked up, the beep started.

OK - I think from now on you need to buy a Dell instead of building your own PC. ;)

But you're the one that built it mainly. I just watched.

Dood. The motherboard and PSU were already installed when I arrived, remember? And as I recall, the individual that installed them is notorious for shorting the motherboard to the case during install... ;D

No, the MoBo was all that was installed. And phooey on it being my fault. I blame NewEgg.

Dood. Don't even start with that blaming Newegg crap. Newegg is the best online retailer out there. If you're gonna blame anybody but you, blame CB - you got his crappy PC luck. Second to him, blame DFI. But not newegg!

Bah!! This is the third MoBo that I've gotten from them that doesn't seem to work right.

The jury's still out on the cause of the problem. Let's take everything apart and put it back together exactly the same, and it'll probably work.

Hey guys, I was searchin for some help w/ my nf2 board that keeps locking up... so here's what i've got if its any help....

    DFI Lanparty2 Ultra
    Barton 2500+
    Asylum GF4 Ti-4200
    2 sticks of PC2700 256MB (currently in dimm1 + 2 / channel1)
tried it in 2+3 as well, didn't help
running both HDs on primary raid striped (although juggled them around and reinstalled a dozen times w/ different configurations)
Chieftec Dragon case w/ 4 case fans (runs around 35c on processor)

Final install went something like this
    Win2K
    SP4
    Hyperion 4in1's
    nForce drivers
    IE6
    critical updates + ie6 patches
DX9.0b (from installer, heard people had problems w/ online updater)
right about here it locked up, so i reinstalled nf2 drivers to be safe
    media player9
still locked up, so loaded the high point drivers
    still getting lockups

Not sure how to continue from here, seems the board also has a tendancy to lose connection w/ the network card, but disabling 1 or the other _appears_ to help. If you guys make any progress w/ this thing please share.

ShreeK: CJ was having the same problems with the network that you talk about... we took everything apart and put it back together with a minimal instalation of hardware, changed some BIOS settings, rebooted, and then it never came back to life again. Time to RMA the board.

I've got a 400w (300+92) PSU, not sure exactly what you need to know about it.... also, seems i've heard other problems w/ this board on the forums, is it worth trying it again? also... got my stuff at tigerdirect, so don't be too hard on newegg

I'd like to know the brand of the PSU and the currents on all voltages (should be a sticker on top with voltage in one column and current in the next). Those are the important ratings, whereas wattage can be with respect to any one of them. If you've got a 400W PSU and it can only do 5A on the 5V line, you have a problem.

Brand is also important because making working equipment is criminal for some companies.

It's not the dealer's fault when equipment fails, it's the manufacturer. We like NewEgg because their return policy is excellent. I haven't worked with TigerDirect in a loooong time, but I remember them having good service as well.

    Powerup!
    MODEL: LP1600D OUTPUT: 400W MAX
    AC Input: 110/230V 3A/2.5A 50/60Hz
    DC Output: 400W Max
    +5v=== 30A +3.3V=== 28A
    -12V=== 0.8A +12v=== 25A
    +5Vsb=== 2A -5=== 0.3A
    (+5V & +3.3V Total output 230W)

hope this is what your looking for, copied the sticker on the side

Now check the voltages in your BIOS. They should be under something along the lines of "Hardware Monitor" or "PC Health".

hey guys, looks like DFI has a forum for support on the shtuff, there's a mongaloid thread about our specific problem, tried some of the suggested fixes (looks like USB may be the culprit) and the machine has been running sound for much longer than it used to (haven't had a crash in 20 minutes -yay-)

    http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6687&perpage=20&pagenumber=1

    here's hoping

[EDIT] Originally they thought it was USB, had a blond moment, I had actually disabled firewire in the bios and it seems to be running smooth

Well I RMA'd the DFI Board with NewEgg and have a new Asus A7N8X-E DELUXE board on the way. I am under strict orders from GHoosdum not to touch the board until he gets here.

Like he doesn't trust me or something,

Hey, Mary says she saw you at school today. She says you told her you were Mrs. Somethingorother today...

//edit: oh, and for all you NF7-S fanatics out there... he's not OC'ing past 400 FSB, so the Asus will be perfectly suitable. Plus, it's got GbE built-in on the new -E version. Sweet!
