"Primary Drive 0 Not Found"

edited November 2007 in Science & Tech
My processor in an old computer crashed, but i had all my music, files etc. on that harddrive. So opened it up and attached it as a Slave drive, to the computer, making sure that the other drive is on master. When i turn on the computer it goes through the Dell loading screen, but then makes a beep and progresses to display this message. Any idea what is wrong??? I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP and the hard drives are both IDE.

You left out some key information:

On which drive is the operating system located?
What drive became the master drive.
The drive that is no longer accessible - is that the operating system drive?

If the processor died, your computer would not even turn on.

Please describe what the symptoms were of whatever died. Not trying to be a wiseguy here, just trying to understand the problem so we can help.

Sounds like you have your slave/master mixed up. Recheck the jumpers on both drives. Remember that if the drive is by itself on it's own IDE ribbon it should be set to master. The drive should only be set to slave if it's sharing a ribbon with another drive.
