Cue fire, brimstone and wailing babies, because the carrier with red horns has signed up with Google. In addition to promising a new GSM-based radio technology (LTE), they've promised to continue with the open-network policy we reported here.

The only obstacle is a certification process for the devices looking to operate on the network, and reduced support for products not offered directly through Verizon outlets.

This could either be fantastic or we could all be screwed, but I doubt it will fall anywhere in between.

Even Leonardo, the scorner of telephones, the Luddite who'd like to terminate every idiot vehicle driver who yacks on a cell phone...

even Leonardo must completely agree with Thrax. This is huge! It has the potential to completely revolutionize the service end of cellular telephone industry. The providers will eventually be competing on service, and not which stupid phone of the week they can offer you. (cell phones are like dirty underwear - off frequently then replaced by fresh)
