iexplore.exe at 102,000k mem?

edited December 2007 in Science & Tech
Hmm, I just checked my processes, since my games were lagging a bit, and iexplore.exe is at 102,652k mem usage... What gives? It can't be caused by TrayIt! Can it? By minimising my F@H app?

I don't see why iexplore wouldn't use that much memory. Firefox with a couple tabs open is using 90,000K on my task manager right now.

How much mem does it use when you navigate to about:blank ?

I wondered that too, but I checked all the processes and nothing dodgy is running. I've not been to any unusual new/questionable websites lately either.

Doesn't change, if it does only by about 100

Toolbars? Virus scanning? What's running. I guess a good thing to do would be to post a HJT log.

A lot of applications use IE as their browser, so it could be something else using it.

if you restart the browser and navigate to about:blank, does that decrease the memory size? I'd guess that it caches the last few pages in memory, and if there were any large ads/images, that could bloat the memory footprint.

I restarted the browser, and decreased to 25,000k. I went to icrontic.com and it went to 41,540k and it's now stable- Thanks :P

yeah - you want IE to cache recent pages in RAM so that the "back" button is pretty much instantaneous. Otherwise, you'd have to access the HD (or re-download the data) to use the back button.
