Please tell us about your computer:

    motherboard
    CPU
    memory
    video card

If you don't know, give the brand and model.

Also, you didn't state whether this problem is just recent, or if it's been present since you first received the computer.

Sorry, there's too little information given to go on.

Have you run any antispyware or antivirus scans?

Also, are you running an anti-spyware program. If so, which one?

Make sure that indexing is turned off (Open up Windows Explorer> right click on your drive>left click properties>remove the checkmark in the indexing box). Also defrag your harddrive.

Next are all your codecs up to date, could be they are old or possibly broken. I'd suggest getting K Lite mega Codec Pack. Those steps will ensure that things are where they should be.

Indexing is - to use simple terminology - a Windows file cataloging system. With indexing turned turned on, Windows keeps track of all the files on a hard drive. This can be beneficial as the computer may have less lag time as Windows searches for particular files that you might call up, since the files are 'indexed' and the operating system instantly (supposedly) knows their hard drive location. If hard drives are loaded down with thousands of files, Indexing can though, slow things down. Every time you make a file change, be it renaming or changing time stamps or so forth, Windows performs a fresh cataloging operation.

Furthermore the index has a tendency to get corrupt and that can bog everything down even more.

Now if your watching video that's streaming off the net - that could also be an internet connection issue.
