Brother MFC-5100C Printer - Installation Problem
I have a Brother MFC-5100C.
I tried to install this printer with CD that came with the printer and drivers from brother website.
Insstallation ends successfully. But after restart printer just doesn't work. I get different errors from different applications.
Notepad: This handle is invalid.
Printer & Faxes->Printer Properties->Print Test Page: Test Page failed to print. Would you like to view the printe troubleshooter for assistance? Some driver files are missing or incorrect. reinstal the driver or try using the lastest version.
I have tried uninstalling/installing many times with different ways but it's not working. I am not sure what to do.
Please help.
My Hardware configuration:
Asus P5N-E SLI
XP Pro SP2

Are you using the latest drivers from the manufacturer's site for this printer?
Have you uninstalled all previous drivers for this printer or any other printers that may have been previously installed?
Thanks for asking for help, but this is not an emergency. I'm moving the thread out of "Emergency Help."
Uninstall what you can from Control Panel and the printer's program entries in Start.
Download and install MyUninstaller and look for any entries pertaining to your printer. Remove any entries found.
Let's get the computer clean before we attempt driver reinstallation.
- Yes updated drivers from Manufacturer's website
- Yes I did. I got a document from Brother Technical Support and it lists about how to delete all files and everything. I will put the link here in case that file is missing something. http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/ca/en/faq/faq/000000/002000/000040/faq002040_000.html?reg=us&c=ca&lang=en&prod=mfc210c_all&Cat=15
I was desperate as it's been 3 days I have been struggling with my printer. But you are right. It's not REALLY emergency. Sorry about that.
I did something and it's working for now. I went to Brother's website and download drivers labelled " Add Printer Wizard Driver".
Then I completely cleaned my system for all previous drivers, files and registry by following Brother's Uninstall procedure listed here. http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/ca/en/faq/faq/000000/002000/000040/faq002040_000.html?reg=us&c=ca&lang=en&prod=mfc210c_all&Cat=15
Then I rebooted the computer.
After reboot, when I attached my printer, XP asked for driver for that device. I went through the "Add hardware wizard" provided by XP.
- "No, not at this time" option
- "Install from a list or specified location"
- "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install"
a location.
- "Have disk"
- Point to the drive you downloaded and it listed the printer.
And now it seems to be working.
