A little bonus from my friends at AIM. Right.

So I received 553 text messages on my cell phone today. Yes, 553. I have AIM Instant Message forwarding so that players on some of my game servers and those just in need of me are able to contact me. Yet every once in a while I get messages from random people for no reason.

Today, err, actually it would be last night now, 'LordSirBobXII' used no less than five different AIM IDs to essentially DoS my phone. So I want his IP.

I was reading another topic concerning this, and it mentioned using either a direct connect or a file transfer, and then using netstat to uncover the original IP.

Are there any other ways to divine an IP out of AIM?
And does a file transfer require a connect in order to get the other party's IP? Or does send out a pending TCP connection or something like it?

I'm not sure if this works but I have had a quick look on my good old friend Google :)

    I found this response:

"Sign on to aim and start an IM with the person. Make a direct image connection. Go into MS-DOS and type in netstat -n and it is the last IP on the list."

    Hope this helps!

Why not try your second question with a friend's client?

I tend to have a slightly different sleeping pattern than most of my friends. I work graveyard hours, you see.

No. Pending file transfers do not give you an IP.

You need to open a direct connection for it to register in netstat.
