RDP - Vista home premium - home premium

So I got's me a nice new laptop today running vista home premium - meaning I can chill on the sofa etc rather than come in to the 'pc room' and isolate myself lol.

Ideally I would like to connect to my main pc upstairs from the laptop occasionally - so I thought Ill just set up an RDP like I have at work - however, as both are home premium it looks as though it will not work :/

What other methods (free!) can people reccomend - basically I want to be able to control the main PC from the laptop - this includes full file access, not just read only and the ability to control all programs and access all drives etc...

I used vnc eons ago on a win98 machine, is that my only option or is there something a bit slicker now?

You could try Dameware Mini Remote.

    I like UltraVNC as well.

UltraVNC is a much simpler, lower-resource option.

Definitely. If you're connecting on your local network, there's no reason to use LogMeIn.

Thrax recommended that to me a few months ago. It's excellent: stable, relatively fast, allows full control, and it's FREE. It's fairly user friendly and not difficult to set up. You can access your other computer via dynamic IP or static IP.

I'm running it now on five computers. I can manage all the computers from one location.
