    According to the log files, each month 91% to 96% of the people visiting my website are using Internet Explorer.

    Thought I would look up the same on mine... (shame it doesn't split Firebird...)....

    I was using Firebird, but switched back to Mozilla because it had a couple extras that I really missed when using Firebird. I should definitely check out Firebird when the next version is released and see if I can switch. It is a more lean browser, that's for sure, but I honestly don't see any difference in rendering speeds (except for web-sites like slashdot or pages with many many images) when using any web-browser now that I'm not using a p3-500MHz.

    2.3GHz AMD power, baby! :) Even makes that molasses-like IE seem not so slow.

    Who's going to write up a nice in-depth article for S-M comparing all the features of the browsers mentioned here?

    I downloaded MyIE2 . . . whomever compares the features of that has his work cut out for him.

    There's only 1 feature I can think off that I wish Mozilla had (I'm sure it could be added if I cared enough to write the code for it) and that is the ability to highlight an url and then right click on it and it open in a new tab. I don't mean click on a link like <a href="http://short-media.com">short-media.com</a&gt; but an url, like short-media.com. For some reason it just bothers me to:<ul><li>highlight
    <li>copy
    <li>open new tab
    <li>paste
    <li>press enter
    </ul>

    When I could:<ul><li>highlight
    <li>right-click and select "open in new tab"
    </ul>

    I'd do it but I haven't used all of these browsers for long enough.

    Well, Opera can masq as IE 5.5, and as Mozilla, and as Netscape 4.78 (aka Mozilla 1.2 or 1.3). Right now, am IN Opera.

    So, those sites that do not know how to undo an Opera 7.2+ masq will in fact misreport and give the masq it feeds and not the pure Opera in their stat engines. Most sites do not know how to report Netscape 7, either, nor Mozilla 1.5. Many also think that Mozilla 1.4 is a Netscape 6.1 or 6.2, and vice versa for some.

    IE 6.0 has the majority overall, yes. But I do not pick by popularity, but by need.

    I'm in the same boat. Any volunteers? This would be a tremendously useful article. Maybe I'll get ambitious and do a little more research of my own. There are some great suggestions and lots of intruiging ideas in this thread.

    And the point in masking Opera as another browser is.....

    Mozilla can also masq. as IE, Opera, Safari, Netscape, whatever. In fact, since some sites (msn.com is notorious for this) actually send out invalid pages to non-IE browsers, Mozilla (and Opera) users sometimes DO masq. as IE just to get the valid HTML.

    Some web sites (most likely the poorly coded ones) get wigged-out if they can't determine which browser is being used to view the page. Masking one browser as another (mainstream) browser is the web-page equivalent of emulation.

    MyIE2...I used to use IE until it started giving me problems, so I gave MyIE2 a chance and loved it. I later reinstalled my OS and never went back to IE.

    I was using Opera for the longest time, till I got fed up with web pages being loaded incorrectly and having to copy-paste the URL into IE so I could look at it right (i.e. WorthPlaying.com articles).

    Found MyIE2 and been enjoying it since. Since it's based on IE, it looks like IE, which isn't that bad, and it has many, many features that make any PC geek happy. If you haven't tried it.. DO IT NOW!

    I just started playing with Opera the other day. What can I say? I'm hooked. I've been using IE since 4.0 but there's the aggravation of keeping up with the security patches. I'll still keep IE around since it is also an o/s updateer but I don't see using it unless I absolutely have to. The only Opera downside is it's a new learning curve. Oh well...

    Yeh, Opera is the shizznizz!

    Small, Speedy, Gets the job done. For those of you that used Opera in the past, and got tired of incompatibilities: Opera has since improved it's interface.

    If you're a sucker for minimalist themes (ie blackbox for windows etc,) you'll appreciate how the keybinds + mouse gestures negate the need for any real toolbar. Consequently, more space for browsing, lightning fast responses, high configurability; the list goes on.

    I still cant stand Opera due to the advertising, as I dont see why I need to buy a browser when I can use a better one for free anyway (Some Mozilla Type).
