DOS 3.3 on 5-1/4" floppy disks

edited March 2008 in Trading Post
I bought an old Tandy 1000 SX and I need to install DOS 3.3, that's on those big clunky floppy disks, on the hard drive. Does anyone have this software that would be willing to sell it to me. Please send me a PM if any of you do. Thanks.

Do you have 5&1/4" floppies ready to go? Have you tested them to ensure they will still have electromagnetic capability?

I would have to buy some probably on ebay. Deskmate is on the other large floppies. I decided to buy a couple of vintage computers, since I owned one of the very first home computers that ever came out. My first computer was one of those TRS80 color.

I was young and stupid back then and didn't take care of things like I do now. But I guess after 61 years I should be able to take care of things.

I think I have DOS 3.3 on 5.25" but I can't guarantee they still have magnetic integrity. I might be able to find some blank disks I can copy them onto if they're still any good. You'd probably be better off with a newer DOS though, like FreeDOS. I ran PC-DOS 2000 on my 8088 laptop until it died so as long as you can find some blank media you ought to be alright.

I was able to find DOS 3.3 for my vintage computer. It should be here in a few days. I also bought a second 5-1/4" floppy drive for it as well. I'm going back to the original setup for it and take the hard drive out. It appears to have some damage done to the circuit board, such as a short where someone may have touched it to something metal on the computer case. When I opened the case the hard drive was not properly installed, flopping around in the case during shipment.

I know what I was getting into since I bought this thing on ebay "as is" and the seller knew jack $h!t about it other than it displayed text with a disk failure. I'm use to disk failures and am able to quickly fix them. But when I fixed this problem than I was getting another error that was indicating that the computer was not properly communicating with the hard drive. Glad I didn't pay much for it, so I'm not going to feel so back if I have to file it under T for trash. But, hopefully going back to it's original configuration will take care of the problem.

    Typical day at eBay!

Hope you get it running. Sounds like a fun project.
