Without a sim card it's just an iTouch.

but you can buy any cheap sim phone and swap the card from it into your iphone and get service. Though you'd then also have to add in a data plan.

I have a sim card for a T-mobile plan, the question is - Can I hack the Iphone (once its been activated on ATT) without the ATT sim card.

I think i can through WIFI but i haven't seen verification of that yet.

You can hack the phone without activating it. You should leave the AT&T sim in, jailbreak it, then put your T-Mobile sim in. I did it for my brother's phone with 1.1.3 firmware using ZiPhone. Everything works.

You can jailbreak it to allow third party software. Not sure if you need the sim to unlock the sim, however.

What you will need to do is restore it first. What firmware is on the phone? If its anyhthing lower than 1.1.2 it should be pretty easy to downgrade to version 1.1.1 jailbreak and unlock. I found 1.1.3 to be a huge pain to hack so I stayed on 1.1.1. On top of that currently there arent a lot of must have features in 1.1.3. However with the SDK dropping yesterday, that WILL change dramaticallyu. 200$ is a great deal for the phone, definately buy it. I love the iphone sooo much.

#iphone on efnet is a great resource. A lot of the iphone code community hangs out there, and dispite their extreme erogance, they are extremely helpful.

PM me if you decide not to buy it. Im looking for one for my girlfriend, and I would loive to buy it.

    Good luck!

If you brick it, just restore through iTunes, although that will bring you up to 1.1.3.

Ooh nice, those 1.0.2 iphones are rare. I dont think you can downgrade that far back after you update, which isn't a big seal, but i think 1.0.2 phones are worth more for those who want to pay for it. Might be something to consider.

Also your 1.0.2 firmware is probably a lot easier to unlock for use with a different sim. I dont know the specifics but there should be several tutorials out there.
