Why is AdAware 2007 such a P.O.S.?

I have used AdAware and AdAware SE without issue for years, but now that it is gone and replaced with AdAware 2007 (free edition), the program just seems to be trash. I have installed and later uninstalled 2007 from about a dozen PC's, (mine, friends and family), all WinXP based, because it generates errors in updating, freezes and, in general, is just plain snotty. I hate software that generates errors in Event Viewer and 2007 seems to do this on a daily basis so I have dumped this road apple. But why has this antispyware program become so contentious? Are there any fixes for this dog? Or is this just Lavasoft's way of annoying you into buying the Pro version? If it is, it isn't working on me or anyone I know. So what gives? Can this formerly useful program be patched/repaired to a functional state?

I have much the same questions and concerns about it too. And I have no answers either. Plus, I just hate the way it installs itself as a service too, even in the free edition that doesn't do real time scanning. I've pretty much abandoned it myself as I think the 2007 edition is a POS.

I'm on the fence right now concerning 2007. I had installed a few months, subsequently just to remove after complications. I reinstalled it a month ago and haven't had any problems that I know of. do you think perhaps there might be conflicts with other security applications installed on your machines?

"do you think perhaps there might be conflicts with other security applications installed on your machines?"-- I can't see how. The machines that it has been on have very little in common except WinXP w SP2, AVG AV, SpywareBlaster, and Spybot S&D. Some were Intel; some were AMD. They all worked great with AdAware SE but NONE have accepted AdAware 2007 w/o these glitches. Two never even had AdAware SE on them as they were built after SE was retired, but ALL have been glitchey with 2007 even after repeated installs/uninstalls/reinstalls and with different downloads. This dog just doesn't hunt. I read somewhere that WinXP's firewall might interfere with 2007, but turning it off for updates made no difference on my PC's and others I advised to try this "fix" had no better outcome than I did. I gave up and am looking for alternatives.

I had similar experience on one machine, but the other three are fine. No ideas.

Spike09 and edcentric, have you checked Event Viewer to see if 2007 is logging errors? Just curious. And like muddocktor pointed out, even the free edition installs itself as a service and that was the source of Event Viewer errors on the systems I saw.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like it. I still run Adaware SE on my systems, even though Lavasoft says it isn't supported anymore I can still get updates for it.

I stopped using AdAware 2007 as it seemed to turn to crap. I've switched to grisofts free AdAware scanner and it seems to work much better.
