    Leonard.
What you missed is that Acetone comes in two flavours
One containing oil, and one without!

What ever you use to clean the CPU IHS or cooler, never use anything that contains oil.

As from smoking crack, when I was brought up I had no friends smoking that kind of thing, neither did anyone of my friends or family.

Also I'm a non smoking person.

I've been buying acetone for 15 years and have never seen acetone + oil in one container. I believe you, but I've never heard of it until now. (OK, let's get pedantic, shall we!)

Acetone is a discreet chemical. If it has oil in it, then it is by definition a compound or mixture, and no longer acetone! :D

Doesn't arctic silver sell the AS 7 combo with the AS7 paste and the remover as well for like $8? thats what I did for mine.

Well In Sweden they declare Acteone with or whitout oil.

In USA they only declare 100% pure Acteone or not!
    http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=17627&cookietest=1

There must be difference between 100% pure Acetone and not 100% pure Actone!

    I'm still not smoking crack!

What's important is not to use any chemicals containig oil.

I've neglected to post an update here... I get on forum binges it seems.

Anyways, 100% acetone with cotton swabs did the trick. I've got the freezer pro 7 installed and working, and I'm very happy with the temps. It runs around 5-10 degrees C cooler idle, and I've been able to push it much further with OCing than before. Very happy with the purchase. Attached is two pictures.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

    garfield, are you serious?

UPS, cotton is the way to go as it's more absorbent than synthetic fabric. Be careful though, as those swabs can leave fibers behind. I quit using swabs a while back. No I just use patches of cloth taken from discarded t-shirts and other cotton rags.

I use old socks. The woven pattern absorbs MASSIVE gunk.

yes, im using coretemp. from b4 a normal thermal paste, i get HOT and solid 57-62 readings... it is really hot in here. (philippines to be exact) but after doing some major cleaning, a technician told me "hey, toothpaste works more better than expensive thermal pastes. and, after 1 yr trial i think, nothing is wrong, and i get 36-40 readings each core.

In all seriousness, I saw a guy make a tray for his Duron, and he cooked a fried egg on it. Of course he made a little tray out of aluminium foil...But it was still neat.

well, toothpaste or no toothpaste, thermal compounds are hardly expensive. I bought my tube of ceramique for 8 bucks... and it'll last me for a looooooong time.

No... Acetone is used to REMOVE thermal compound... It costs like $5 and reduces the temp.. since you're using toothpaste by about 10-15C
