We'll add a temp cleaning now - if not Panda will crate a large log of harmless cookies there.
Go Here and download ATF Cleaner. Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected (and close ATF).
If you have them, also click on Firefox/Opera at the top and repeat the steps (and close ATF). Firefox/Opera will need to be closed first for the cleaning to be effective.
Then Go here for an online AV scan. Follow all prompts to Allow all ActiveX objects to install. If your AV alerts you while the scan installs ignore this - Panda's Active Scan method is often mistaken for infection activity.
When the scan completes do not click any of the disinfection links provided. Click the small "Export to:" button and save the log file to your desktop. Then copy the contents of that ActiveScan.txt file back here for review please.
1. Open Norton.
2. Click Options.
3. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
4. In the left pane, click Internet Worm Protection.
5. In the right pane, uncheck Enable Internet Worm Protection.
6. Click OK.
7. Close Norton AntiVirus.
Older instructions but should be close enough to provide an idea for that. Then try Panda again please.
...I don't know what to do more to try to disactivate Norton, I've put all options in OFF but the on line scan still doesn't start...
I got the same error message.
I also run a complete scan by Norton and no viruses and spywares appeared.
Now the problem with the PC is about opening the files.
For example audio files (.wav): if I double click on them it takes about 1 minute to open Windows Media Player but no file appears, I mean only the program is opened. The same with Microsoft Word, if I open a file double cliccking on it the pc only opens the Word program, but it's "empty", I mean without the opened file.
Waiting for your instructions...
Just the fact that the system knows which application to use (Word opens when a .doc file is clicked, for example) indicates it is not the typical file association issue infection changes brings. And such varied files as .wav and .doc suggest this, and also suggests more a blocking function occurring there. And we come back to Norton. I do sense it has become corrupted by some change infection made, but we would not know until it is uninstalled first. I choose these suggested steps as if these were my own system repairs, so not just posting some standard ideas when I suggest that.
yes, I will follow your instructions and will disinstall Norton.
Before doing that I only ask you if there is a free on line AV to download so that after disinstalling Norton I will still be able to protect my pc.
Unfortunately I haven't got the Norton Installation files. Thanx
If you have a product key for Norton and it is a currently registered copy there may be ways to secure replacement installs after, but it requires some contacting Norton to demonstrate all that. Save any key info like that to be sure you have that option. Tony Klein's security tips Here also provide ideas for popular free antivirus replacements you can choose from.
