It's purty. I decided to purchase the pro version and give these guys some money to continue development of their free version.

I'm a long time user of AVG and I have to say that the UI changes in 8.0 are unwelcome. It's unnecessarily bubbly, inefficient, and just plain unattractive IMHO. No thanks, I went back to 7.5 after just a few minutes.

I'm staying with 7.5 as well- however they plan to remove support for it at the end of the year.

    Bump for update-

If you use AVG 7.5, you've probably seen this. Looks like they changed their minds and are leaving us little choice in the matter.

this new 8.0 is awesome, i really like the google link feature, its caught me a couple times on iffy links, avg is what we install at work on customer's computers and its awesome because it requires little to no user input for updates, saves us a bunch of time :)

Is AVG 8.0 actually, in fact, free? I saw that message this morning, and upon browsing the site I can't seem to find a download link for AVG8 free.

They hide it really well now. I haven't been able to get to the Free version from the main site in quite a while. Gotta Google for it directly.

    jerks!

Thanks for the link. I typically set up clients with AVG free when they're in need of protection. Wasn't looking forward to explaining to all of them why they need to find another.

Thanks for link though is it normal for the installer to take ages to load up?

I'm not so sure what you mean by "load up" and where you were stalling, but my installations were pretty quick- the download was the longest part. 8.0 is twice the size of 7.5 and I assume the servers are bogged down by demand.

However, I have a good quantity of resources- memory and HD- and I suspect

    1. This package uses more resources than previous ones (my scans use over 100MB of mem!) and
    2. You might be tight on them.

So I would not be surprised if the installation is pushing your limits.

All installed now but wish I could remove the toolbar in Mozilla Firefox. It's too obtrusive and I'm pretty sure it's slowing down surfing. Is there a way to uninstall this?

Edit: Just found out how. View > Toolbars >
