"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

edited May 2008 in Hardware
I guess this thread carries on from my other one

What I am trying to do is extract data from my SATA hard drive

I've connected my dogey SATA hard drive to my other computer but when I try and access the files I get the message
L:\ is not accessible.

the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

Is there any way to repair this? Or should I just wipe the hard drive

edit: Norton Disc Doctor & Error Checking both don't work and the drive says that it has 0 bytes free and used space

Yeah I'm fairly sure the drive is toast.

So you did run a CHKDSK /R to try and recover bad sectors?

I've ran an error check in the tools tab of the drives properties.

Is that it, or is it a different one?

If so, how do I run a CHKDSK /R?

    Run, CMD, Chkdsk /r.

But basically you've run the same thing if you ran disk check with recover bad sectors on.

That was fast! Too bad all solutions don't solve the problem that quickly.
