Alliance Defence: Lets Bloody Some noses!

As those of you who played with us last server will know, this is an IC speciality :D!

At the moment, most of you are being raided at some point! While we're all doing great at keeping the rewards at a minimum, eventually Warehouses/Production has to outgrow Crannies... we need to defend!

I've been concentrating on building up fields so far, but I'm close to starting to build troops, as are many other players I imagine! Rather than having them picked off a few at a time, I think we should should select a "safe house": somewhere that's never been attacked and has a big (Lvl 10+) (preferably roman) wall. We all send our troops there and they're safe.

Once we have a good ammount of troops, we can start co-ordinating so that, for example, 400 defensive troops are in Duchess's Village the next time Chicks attacks. Minimise our loses!

This is probably primarily a job for Praet and Phalanx for now, Teutons probably want to concentrate on building offensive armies, however if some of the bigger teuton players could provide 20+ Scouts between them it'd help :) . Plus if you happen to be in the area, wiping out the attacker and following with a 200 macemen raid would be a nice touch :D.

Basically this is a call out to everyone to see if you want/need to join in. Ideally we need a Roman who's never been raided to contribute a safe-house with a Lvl 10 wall. Then we need to create a list of people who are being raided and where diplomacy has failed... and we can work our way through it as a group, growing in indivudial strength as we go, and weakening our attackers!

Those be my thoughts!

Just remember that these safe houses need wheat... we do not want to overly burden the host village. Other than that... GREAT IDEA. I am building my swordmen army now but only one or two at a time. I need at least a day to build somewhere around 10 or 15 of them.

i think if all romans and gauls build 10-20 praes or phalanx and tuetons just have their normal armies when someone get attacked we have a defense to wipe out their troops then a counter attack to steal their resources.

Well i shall be expanding to a nearby 9c in the next few days (residence lvl 6), so i will be able to provide wheat to the host village with the wall (im a teuton so my wall&defence suck + i havent researched spears yet as i went straight to paladins), sometime after i've settled.

I'm primarily focussing the residence and fields at the moment, so it shouldn't be too long.

OK... so Micky seems like a good place to send troops after he's setup... We could send him both troops... that would also prohibit others from trying to take it away from him.

Excellent idea. I was thinking the about this last night, wishing I had a safe spot for my troops to go so Vladexter wouldn't kill them when I went to bed.

I think MickyG is saying he can't take the troops....

    Safe-Village should be:

    Never/Rarely attacked
    Central
    Preferably Roman
    High pop

    Anyone?

Edit: oh, and I too am working on a 9c in my 7x7... probably 2 days away from troops. Enough time for the wall to go up and people to skew their production for troops (Romans.... make IRON!!!)

EDIT2: Safe House... I nominate Saracen!
EDIT3: Although he's been attacked twice today.... but not by much :) !
  • edited May 2008
i suppose i could take the troops. ive been attacked twice in the past 3 days.
  • edited May 2008
I could take troops, i havent been attacked since the first day. I dominate my area, and basically a NAP with the ONE member. Hence the growth ;)
But they wouldn't be as well protected as if a roman or gaul was holding them.

Doing an overnight raid is usually better than storage somewhere else, even if you don't get anything it gives troops security.
Even if you see it better to raid a player with less than 10 pop.

But it is a good plan, if you add one more thing to the list:
    High level wall

I'll shut up now then ;)
    ...
    I now nominate: MickyG :) ... or Saracen :) !

Saracen's more central and a Roman. MickyG's never been attacked and bigger and scarier!

First of all makes me laugh out of all the 7 x 7's I could be placed it would be here. I am on friendly terms with Emperor Nick and he has told me that 'Chicks' is a very good player. And I need to be careful. So far she hasn't got anything and I ensure cranny levels are more than sufficient.

At this stage I am concentrating on been able to get residence up and move to an outpost area. Where I can build defensive troops to help out you guys later.

A safe village would also be good to have to send settlers too.

Difference is... we're talking 10-50 Phalanx! I could raid with them.... but then they'd come back! I'd have to make sure I was ALWAYS online when they returned to send them straight out again, lest they meet an equal number of mace and get wiped! Best protection for 50 Phalanx.... another 500 Phalanx :D !!!

And I mentioned a Lvl10+ (preferably Roman) wall twice Muffin  you too big and important to read the posts of your underlings :D:wink:

I'm not above reading messages Limbo... I like the idea of 400 macemen for defense behind a lvl 4 gaul wall. Good ideas. Keep them coming....

    I'm up for it.
Although I have no wall as yet.
Like the rest of you, I'm concentrating on getting my infrastructure and fields in place and protecting what I've got by building up the crannies.

But as you say, there comes a point when you exceed the crannies capabilities and need troops to defend.

On the plus side, I have agreements with the other big players in my 7x7 and the only attacks are coming from outside the immediate area.

I Know. Just discussing it with Saracen. I need to really get her off my back. I did try a friendly IGM few days ago but not answered. I am on friendly terms with Nick (Emperor Nick) who has been in long discussions with her.

    Advice:

Should I IGM Nick to see if he can suggest an approach that I can make to her? try the diplomacy route first

Talking to Nick is a good idea. When we spoke last night, he said he can't spare any defensive troops at the moment. Perhaps he'll be able to help in other ways.

Or... and I play devils advocate a lot... we deal some impressive destruction... and send Nick the report!

A very subtle indication of the benefits of Ally-ing with {IC} :D

    Spoke to Nick he replied:

not sure mate, i know she is a skilled player so be careful.. she doesn't mess with me, cos she knows i have a better military presence and advantage than her at the moment.

Duchess, build up your wheat, I'm thinking defensive action.

Since she's hitting you regularly, it'll be quickly done.

Paladins, Phalanx and Praetorians would be an idea combination, as these are all good anti-infantry troops.
Of course, if anyone has any druid riders they're hiding it would be even better...

OK. Will it show on her attack logs that I have reinforcements?

ok i think we need a final vote on who is gonna hold the troops. who are the candidates?
  • Invisible-MuffinInvisible-Muffin Scotland
    edited May 2008
Well, if they're from other clans (gauls and roman) then yes.

Teutonic reinforcements will appear as yours.

But she won't know who reinforced you.

And if less than 25% of the defenders survive, she won't know a thing other than that her her troops are dead.

    I am Roman :)

Although at this stage are others in a position to help? I can work on my barracks and wall (currently Lv 4)

    Well, they'd better be :)

I think Saturday will be an easy day to do it, it gives us some time to plan and build up defences as well.

I'll do a head count of defensive troops throughout the alliance, to see what we can gather up.
