A Hero Question

edited June 2008 in Gaming
Well, I know that you can get heroes by building a hero's mansion etc, but what exactly do they do? :D And is it good to make one at this stage, or aren't they needed?

Thanks :)

Once you make a heros mansion you can choose to make a hero from any of the researched/available troops.
Everytime your hero goes out in an attack it will gain experiance and gain additional points that you can assign to various attributes eg, attack, defence, %age bonus for all attacking troops, %age bonus for all defending troops.
The more experience he gets the better.

The hero is also required for taking oasis. The idea being you attack an oasis with your troops ( and hero if you wish ) until you kill all the critters then send in your hero again who will capture the oasis and give your village a %age boost of crop, wood, clay or iron or a mixture.

Here's some links that will probably explain it better than me.

Ok, thanks :) Is it worth creating a hero now then, or should I wait until later in the game? I can create all the units up to Theutates Thunders at the moment :)

Also, the heroes mansion needs to be level 10 before I can do anything to oases doesn't it? :D

I would create one now choosing the strongest unit possible. The more experience he gets early on the game the stronger he will be.
If he dies in battle he can be revived and you can also then choose a different troop type.

"Also, the heroes mansion needs to be level 10 before I can do anything to oases doesn't it?"
Yes level 10 for the 1st oasis, level 15 for the 2nd.
If you can get the mansion to level 20 you can take a 3rd oasis but it costs a fortune.

I have a question about heros too.... well, more interested to know what you think!!!

Which unit type would you use for a hero as a Gaul? TT for quick kills? or Phalanx for good all-round defence? or something else?

Anyone who played Gauls last time have an opinion? I've went Phalanx... for now!

A Theutates Thunder Hero is awesome for gauls, due to it's speed.
If you send out a raiding party with just TT's and the hero, you can devastate people at this point in the game, especially Teutons as only their spearmen have any effectiveness against cavalry

Later on though you may wish to have a Haeduan hero, due to it's immense attack power.

Yeah, I'm plainning on making a TT hero, and then training up 10 or 20 to start with and raiding around :)

Note... it would take 3 or 4 levels with a Phalanx hero to be as good as a Theutates Thunder. I was a Teut and made a macemen... at level 3 he was not as good as an paladinand sooo much slower than a paladin. I switched to paladin and he was awesome!!!
