NomadNomad A Small Piece of Hell Icrontian
edited June 2008 in Internet & Media
Looking for help from a few knowledgeable camera people, I recently found a Nikon 70-210 f/1.4 Series E Telephoto lens (constant aperture of f/4 through the zoom range) for $75. I'm not very well versed in lenses (quality wise), but this kind of jumped out at me for the price.

The only features that won't work are color matrix metering and autofocus. I don't use autofocus anyhow, any comments or possibly anyone who's used it before?

Right now I have a Nikon 18-55mm and a Tamron 20-75mm (came with an N90 I was given but is cross compatible to my D50). Figured this could cover the upper range.

It's a good price, that is a quality lens. If you trust the source, move on it.

A zoom with a constant aperture of f/1.4 is an amazing lens to have. I'd go for it. And yeah, hilarious stuff.

It's a constant of four through the zoom range, 1.4 is the lowest aperture.

The header in the listing is, it is this lens:

    f/4

That doesn't make sense. Is it f/1.4 or f/4 constant aperture? It can't show f/4 on the barrel and open to f/1.4. Are you sure it's not f/1.4-4?

F/4 is the lowest aperture, sir. It's a constant f/4 throughout the focal length, it won't open up to f/1.4.

Yeah, that's what the edit was for, I just didn't change the original post.
