A little drama

A little drama anyone? 3dGameMan.com is well known throughout these circles for creating some pretty sweet video reviews of hardware, but Rodney has come off today looking a little shady in the eyes of two tech sites.

Hardware Canucks and TechPowerUp both came forward today stating that 3dGM had used images their without permission in his videos reviewing the HIS HD 8750 and HIS Radeon HD3870 X2 (comment 37), respectively.

Apparently, the sites contacted 3dGameMan, but their allegations were denied. Even so, both videos have been edited to remove the questionable content. As of yet, there has been no admission of guilt or letter of apology.

OMG.. what a total mess. I just read a couple of threads at XS and Canucks. As a reviewer, I'm shocked. It is absolutely, positively NEVER worth ripping off images. Take your shots, and take the time to do it right. Even if it means voiding warranty or a delayed review. No excuses for things like this :(

Agreed. This is the kind of stuff that really hurts credibility. But I've learned a few things from following this: a) most sites seem open to sharing photos provided they get proper credit, and b) even well-regarded sites aren't immune from screwing up. I wonder if there are any more sites out there who've had their content used without permission?

Icrontic certainly has had their stuff used without permission. There was a site in China downloading the entire site's content and posting it as their own.

There was also the big blow up when Mortin had Ghetto Hardware images ripped off and posted as someone elses; scumbags even tried to rip off the Ghetto Hardware tag line.
