Any individual who has kept a watchful eye on the processor market knows that AMD is struggling to right their course. Recent -- and sizeable -- cuts to their workforce, trailing sales, under-performing x86 architecture and little palpable response to the Atom has left AMD a day late and a dollar short.

It comes as no surprise that Hector Ruiz stepped down today, having been at the helm amidst AMD's long and agonizing decline into a distant second. Such a move has been rumored for quite some time, though they were dismissed at a December '07 analyst meeting.
AMD has given the nod to the COO and President of AMD, Dirk Meyer. While AMD continues its downward spiral, Hector Ruiz will stay on the board as an executive chairman.

When I first saw the news today, I really gave a sigh of relief.
Those types of concerns generally happen when there is no clear explanation. Then you have to worry about behind the scenes activity that could squander your investment. Here there is no question. AMD stock pretty well led the charge yesterday and jumped up over 7%.
Amen. AMD lost yesterday's gain at opening bell today- underscoring that the basic malaise of the company is still present.
Maybe their ATI arm will pull them out- but something has to hit market that will capture our attention and be a clear winner.
