Any individual who has kept a watchful eye on the processor market knows that AMD is struggling to right their course. Recent -- and sizeable -- cuts to their workforce, trailing sales, under-performing x86 architecture and little palpable response to the Atom has left AMD a day late and a dollar short.

It comes as no surprise that Hector Ruiz stepped down today, having been at the helm amidst AMD's long and agonizing decline into a distant second. Such a move has been rumored for quite some time, though they were dismissed at a December '07 analyst meeting.

AMD has given the nod to the COO and President of AMD, Dirk Meyer. While AMD continues its downward spiral, Hector Ruiz will stay on the board as an executive chairman.

Not quite sure what you mean by that. I think Ruiz' departure was way overdue. There must have been quite a few true believers for his tenure to have progressed as much as it did. I, for one, think his vision far outpaced his grasp of reality.

When I first saw the news today, I really gave a sigh of relief.

Changing leadership, no matter how refreshing, worries investors. It's another chip in AMD's rusty armor.

Those types of concerns generally happen when there is no clear explanation. Then you have to worry about behind the scenes activity that could squander your investment. Here there is no question. AMD stock pretty well led the charge yesterday and jumped up over 7%.

I just hope they didn't wait until too late to unass the prick. Remember, we are talking about the guy who before he came to AMD was the head of Motorola's processor division when it went down the tubes too. He has a history with cpu's and going downhill. AMD should have done this a year ago, IMO.

Amen. AMD lost yesterday's gain at opening bell today- underscoring that the basic malaise of the company is still present.

Maybe their ATI arm will pull them out- but something has to hit market that will capture our attention and be a clear winner.
