Lost a folding server

Well, my points might take a bit of a dip because one of my dual xeon servers it in the hospital right now.
She wasn't happy enough being a W2K Server, so she is going in to get some work done and come out as a 2K3 Server EE.

On a side note, I am expecting 6 new dell server's this month. 3 should be folding immediately, with the other 3 to follow.

Specs are as follows for each of the new servers:
Dual Xeon 3.2ghz
2 gig ram
3x36gb 15k ( one is going to have 5x72 15k)
I believe all the drives are U160 not U320.
all rackmounted
who really cares about the rest... :D

They will all be HT running Windows 2003 Server. 2003 is supposed to be the first server series OS that actually takes advantage of the P4 HT. :D

Now only if the servers were powered by AMD! :D

That would be some serious foldage! :fold:

I think it was Leo that said his 3.5GHz P4 finished 2 wus in nearly the same time it takes a 2.5GHz AMD to finish 1.

Given that, I'll say your dual Xeon running @ 3.2 will probably squash any AMD system available today--save the 3GHz super-cooled Opterons.

/me thinks AMD will own folding once F@H is optimized for AMD64 though. Oh yeah! :D

    Unless I had a dual MPs @ 2.5 :D

T1, you sure they can handle folding? They are Dells after all. ;);D

In all seriousness though, I've seen more of Dell's crappy cooling systems than I ever needed to. Are their servers as bad as their desktops?

Dell actually makes some really solid servers. The cooling in their 1U and 2U rackmounts are superb.

Hmm. Got any pics? I guess they need to fire the guys that do the thermal engineering for their desktops and make the server guys work overtime.

might just be wishful thinking cause we've heard the rumors all before but: Dell and Gateway?

Dell servers are beasts. I move several around each day at Fed Ex. Some over 100+ lbs.
