Console hackers have put their nose to the grinder and released a package for chipped and unchipped Wiis that adds DVD playback. The simple process requires only a DVD+R, burning software capable of setting the booktype to DVD-ROM, and a few minutes of time spent following on-screen instructions.

The package adds the open-source Mplayer software and the libdi DVD playback library to a hidden channel on the Wii. It's simple, it's easy, what more could anyone ask for?

Hooray! I've always thought the lack DVD playback on the Wii was one of its greatest failures.

Cool! Finally somthing my Wii can do other than look pretty... ;)

//Edit: Just tried it out and worked like a charm!

//Edit 2: I also am able to play .avi files off of my SD card, is this also a new feature that is with this new hack release or am I just behind the times?
