Ubisoft Violates Consumer Rights?

edited December 2003 in Science & Tech
Ubisoft recently released the much anticipated 1.5 patch for its Rainbow Six 3 : Raven Shield game, but failed to mention the new copy protection scheme the patch implemented.

[blockquote]It turns out that Ubisoft implented code into the RVS 1.5 patch which checks PCs for ANY clone or virtual drive programs and then fails to launch the game if such devices or programs are found. What this has in turn done is disabled thousands of consumers who use programs like Daemon Tools, CloneCD or Alcohol 120% from playing their Ubisoft games even if they have their own physical cds in an actual drive. Jedi Academy does the same thing. It refused to start until I uninstalled Alcohol 120% :shakehead

That's weird, cause I used Jedi Academy and I have Alcohol 120% on my computer.... And I do have a store-bought, legit copy.

But I think the US and Europe versions use different copy protection.....

That's KotOR, not Jedi Academy. JA works fine for me too. I use CloneCD's virtual drive.

Ubi basically fu**ed RvS. Their support sucks. Their communication with the forums sucks. 95% of the threads are rants. Front page is updated like ever 2-3 months. Last time I buy something from them.

Well from what I read in addition to that. The patch now created a a big bug that I guess people are now using as an exploit for cheats but they don't want anyone knowing about it and it's killing monitors. Seems it's when going from the main menu to the game, it drops the refresh rate drastically or something and it kills it. I personally don't know since I haven't played the game in months cause of all the problems. gg nUbisoft.
