$346.94 wholesale from Bell micro.
Fast, but way too much money atm. Just for a comparison, the 10k rpm U320 Seagate cheetah goes for $482.51 from the same guys.

Or I can buy 10 18GB 10,000RPM SCSIs for $100, and a RAID card (if necessary) for another $190...
You can get the 10 pack on ebay also for about that much. I'm holding out for when the 50GB Seagate Barracuda 4-packs get below $100. The Mac needs new hard drives.

ROFL. Drasnor, have you looked at those drives? They're 5.25", full height drives. They take up 2 5.25" bays each, and have a spindle speed of a whopping 5400rpm.
Reading thru these posts is like listening to my older brother and his friends talk about getting cheap performace parts for their (60s era) Mustangs, Camaros, and GTOs!!!!
Conversations exactly the same, only the items have changed.
ROTFL!!!
The more things change, the more they stay the same!
i love talking about speed-parts for muscle cars thats all i ever used to do was tinker with cars, now its computer and less cars. but i will own a HEMI 426

I mean the 7200RPM 1" height 50GB Barracuda drives. They're down to $35 per drive on eBay last time I checked. Those Elites _are_ tempting though, since fast wide SCSI RAID controllers are <$30 on ebay.

But 47gb at $14 is hard to resist. Too bad I only have one free spot on my SCSI cable or I'd get two. I think I'm gonna get my old Dell running again just to store some crap on .
With regard to the WD74's, I really do wish I could have gotten two of those babies rather than my to 36's. Yeah they're expensive, but I would have gotten a pair if they had been out when I built my rig. More space, slightly faster seek time, boy! they'd be on my christmas list, that is... if I did actually believe in Santa, for which I don't.;)
Geeky1 had this to say I wonder how reliable it would be?
Apparently "the most reliable drives". But I'm not sure if that still applies as they look about 20 years old....

Gargoyle, those WD 5.25" drives are supposed to be the most reliable drives ever made, or so I've heard. But I've never used one, and don't really feel the need for one, so I can't say if that's true or not.
