iTunes will not start

Dr. Google is useless.
Apple tech forums are totally useless.
This is a brand new install of XP, and is a mirror of what I had before - nothing unusual, no firewalls, internet security software, or antivirus.
iTunes WILL NOT START.
It starts to load, and taskmgr reports that itunes.exe gets to exactly 14,724K of memory used and then it just hangs there.
I have tried reinstalling, etc. I've tried disabling bonjour, ituneshelper, etc.
I've deleted every single mention of apple on my computer, uninstalled everything, and reinstalled from scratch
Nothing.
Halp.

are you using the new version that came out last night?
would you like an older version?
is windows firewall on?
I use itunes because I own hundreds of dollars worth of itunes music
I tried 8.0 and the new one that came out today, 8.0.1. I was excited to see 8.0.1 thinking it would solve my problem. NO. Fail. Problem still there.
The server {DC0C2640-1415-4644-875C-6F4D769839BA} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
Sure enough, that's the DCOM object for iTunes control. Hmmm. The plot thickens.
I tried Run As --> Administrator and it still didn't launch, so it's not a permissions problem.
I however couldn't find errors in my windows logs.
I'll keep this thread updated.
Welcome to Icrontic
Me too I have a heavily slipstreamed Windows XP sp2 install.. But it troubles me a bit that I didn't find a DCOM warning/error. Did you find it in the application log or system log?
I found a working solution on a dutch forum i visit often (thread: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1284805 )
The solution described in the last post fixed the problem for me.
In english:
Didn't even have to run regsvr32 on them, just copied them into system32 and voila, iTunes fired right up.
Please stick around!
Perhaps it was the cryptography stuff?
