It does its first reboot thing and says "39 minutes" to completion?

I finally decided to test the 5312 pci-x raid controller tonight. A two drive raid-0 array to install to and from that point in the install untill I booted clean to the desktop the first time was 6 minutes and 20 seconds. Zowee Batman...

*grumbles* My Maxtor DMax 9s take ~20 minutes or so, as I recall...

    How much was the 5312?

I stole it basicaly. They usually run four to five hundred even on eBay with 128mb cache. They can actually take a 256mb cache.... The 256mb cache module alone runs more on eBay then I paid for the controller and 128mb cache in my 5312.

It doesn't have XP drivers. I am fudging it sort of with win2k3 drivers but most benchmsark progs are hanging it up. I need to just install either win2k or win2k3 and be done with it.

And I have a big 4ch Enterprise 1600 available if your still looking for something btw.... Its probably a little pricey for ya but I thought I would mention it.

Here is a ATTO from the same controller that t1rhino posted awhile back. Remember this is a two drive raid-0 but its pci-x 133 also

Heh. Well that's why... you're using a SCSI controller that retails for like 2x what my entire RAID array cost me... :D

I ended up getting a DVD Burner, another CD-RW, and another IDE drive instead of a new SCSI controller tho, so I'll have to wait a while before buying one. It turns out the drives I was looking at are full-height (1.6") drives anyhow, and I have nowhere to put 10 1.6" drives... I suppose I could duct tape them, but... not worth the effort. When LVD-160/320 drives come down a bit more, I may set up a SCSI RAID array, but not at the moment.

I have no idea what the thing retails for actually. I bet its a grand to 1500 anyway. I bet compaq list price is nasty but you can probably get it new on the web pretty reasonable.

I paid a little over two for mine.
