Helpf: How do I know what Ethernet Card to buy?

edited November 2008 in Science & Tech
I live in a house where we share Broadband but it doesn't get to my room. I need a better card. I have a Lynksis Wireless - G that's at least 3 years old. I have a Pentium 4 desktop computer running XP.

thanks

The problem may not be your wireless device, but the (assumed) wireless router's capabilities or the location where it's set up.

G is usually fine for most internet usage and gaming. I don't see why you would need an upgrade, especially considering that your computer itself probably can't handle anything that would require and upgrade.

Has the network slowed down since you first acquired it?

You can always do a few simple things to keep the speed up. For example, not being behind microwaves, refrigerators, or the sort to avoid interference. You can secretly go over to the AP and point the antennae towards your room :D. Try to keep security up also, having a secret internet thief can really suck up bandwidth. And don't forget the possibility that your computer can have unnecessary junk slowing it down.
