I just got this XP2000+ from Fry's bundled with an ECS K7VTA3 ver 8 for $65.00 for my brother in Alaska who's system died and he wanted cheap.

AXDC2000DUT3C

AQXDA0322MPMW

I promised him I would test to make sure it works OK and will also test on my NF7-S to see what I can get out of it. If it does well on my board I will try to convince him to get an NF7-S and better memory (or even swap him for my Barton if he won't spend more on an NF7-S).

Can the cache be unloced via the pins or do have to use the bridges? I need some help on this. And if you guys haven't noticed, my new job doesn't let me get on here much as I have been working 12+ hr days.

You are lucky cause the newer ones not only are multi locked but the cache is also locked.
This one should be fully unlocked so yeah, do all the mods you can!

Cool! Thanks for the pics too. So from what I see I need to do the 2nd L2 and the third L12. Is there any way to do these on the pins instead??? Given that it is a week 22 and is a low voltage chip I am thinking OC'ing possibilities should be pretty good too! :D

I supposed you could but IMO, is much easier to close the bridges. You don't have to make it 166MHz (L12 mod) if you don't want to but you can always erase both mods anyway.

Mac posted a link to the pin mods in the original Thorton thread.

    Good luck!

I'll check it out and as for the 166 mod I guess it will be hit and miss on which will yield more in this case.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the bridges, you're welcome to send me the chip and I'll close'em for you.

My success rate is 99.9% in case you wonder... :D

btw: do you know if they had 2400+ combos?

I think they did and were with a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra board for $129.

If the 2400+'s are old as yours, that's an excellent deal. Heck! a 3200+ for $129 plus a board? :D

I couldn't resist the temptation so I went to my local Fry's to check it out.
They do have the 2000+ combo like yours but unfortunately, they didn't have the 2400+ combo but they do have unlocked 2500+ Barton's / Gigabyte combo for $139. I bought one just to try it and see how far can it go but I don't really need it so it'll be going back unless it turns out to be a super chip... :D

Batch 0015 which according to Mac it should be close the center of the waffer thus a very good OC'er

We'll see, I'll be back later with results.

With my board and bios (v1.2 / v1.7) this chip behaves just like my Thorton giving me the option to boot at higher FSB with default voltages. I can boot at default 2500+
  • EQuitoEQuito SoCal, USA
    edited December 2003
or I can boot at 3100+ which is already fine by me. That's a $300 CPU without any effort.
More to come although I'm limited by my board lack of high FSB. I can get stable as high as 217MHz so we'll see.

Using bios v2.3 (latest for me) the chip is recognized as a 3200+ default voltages all stable.
I've tried to go for high FSB but I can't get over 214MHz stable (CPUI Enable)... :(

I wouldn't go over 200 on a rev. 1.x board with an nForce 2 chipset, regardless of who made the board. I've killed 3 A7N8X Deluxe 1.04s by pushing them past 200MHz.

I'd drop it to 200, and start bumping the multi. The chip is unlocked, correct?

LOL, you must be kidding right? rev 1.2's run fine up to 217 or so. This board has been running 210MHz 24/7 F@H for the last 6 months.

I'm trying to avoid higher multis if all possible but yeah, I'll have to do that sooner or later.

    Geeky,

Fsb could never kill a board alone. As long as you chipset mod the 1.2 revisions, most of them do 220 all day long.

    EQuito,

Have you pencil modded yours? That's a must. A blind man could almost do it. Bridge-modding a cpu is 3 times harder.

NP, I have both mods already made with mini-grabbers since last year but I took them off cause I didn't want to run the board 24/7 under such stress.
I'll hook'em up later cause now I'm in the middle of a customer's computer repair.

Negative. It's not the board you have to be doing something else wrong. I got my nf7-s 2.0 and out of the box the board went all the way up to 225.

I ran my 1.2 at 2V on the chipset with stock cooler/AS3 for 24/7. It can easily take that.

I couldn't resist either. Since my brother was all over wanting an inexpensive Barton I was able to get him to change his mind and get an NF-7S and a twin Pack of Mushkin 3500 Level II. So I went back to Fry's and got another combo. The girl brought a green week 43 back and I asked if she could please get me a brown one instead. She came back with another week 22 Thorton! :D

See the point now of buing the cheap cpu's locally? I know, the Eggs is $10-15 less but there's no way you could choose chip like that.

Get this... I just popped the second one I got in my NF7-S and for grins set the fsb to 200 and default voltage and it posted, booted into Windows and came up as 2503 MHz!!! :D Damn, I think that ones going to ber a keeper for sure. My Barton 2600 won't even come close to that.

    Mac,
Yes, I agree on the virtues of buying locally! :D And heck, it is almost the same price as the Egg to boot! ;)

I have a feeling I'm going to have a Barton for sale soon. :D

Nope, that's in stock form. They are off to EQ to be modded today and I hope I get similar resuls after the cache is enabled.
