Help Uploading Roms For NES Emulator In iPod Touch

edited November 2008 in Gaming
I've managed to install an NES emulator for my iPod touch but now the problem I have is uploading roms to the ipod to be able to play the games. I've looked up a ton of tutorials which most of them say upload to /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/NES or something similar to that depending on the software version of the iPod itself (I think mine is 1.1.5), although I can't seem to find any folder like that. The Error message I get when I open the emulator from the iPod is "No ROMs Found, No NES ROMs Found. Please upload ROMs to ]/var/mobile/Media/ROMs/NES... I'm using TotalCommander32 to view the files in the ipod and also I even tried creating the path itself with the program and tried copying (1) rom to that created folder hoping it would work like that but no. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to get this working?

You need to add them via SSH. Also, the folder doesn't exist by default. There's a link to instructions on the Cydia main page.

I know this might sound dumb but where would I be able to find the Cydia main page?

Is your Touch jailbroken? I figured that's how you installed the emulator. If that's the case, it should have added a new icon called Cydia, which is the jailbreak app repository.

Good point. In that case, can he install SSH?

    I have version 1.1.5
I have both Installer & Cydia icons, and I figure it is jailbroken
I think I remember seeing in some page (I forget which) something about "uploading the roms" not directly through the cable, I think through another method, I believe it was some type of ftp transfer thing or something similar, I'm not sure...

Use Cydia to install SSH and something like BossPrefs (This will allow you to enable and disable SSH). Turn on SSH and connect it to your wireless network. On your computer, use a program like WinSCP to connect to the iPod. Upload the ROMs to the appropriate directory.

When you're finished, be sure to disable SSH again, as the admin password for jailbroken iPods/iPhones is widely known.

    ^^ what they said.

WinSCP is the easiest way to SSH (with a GUI) on Windows - and it is free :D

    I am also using 1.1.5.
I have jailbroken, and am using installer.
    NES emulator installed.
ROMs installed, but not showing up in the NES app - getting the same error.

I can't get SSH to work using a variety of tools, so I tried iPhoneList.

I was able to create directories and upload the ROMs, but it's still not working.
I placed started by creating the director "var" inside the root folder, then moved forward from there. I have check the case sensitivity of folders. No luck.

    What else can I do?

Maybe I'm not understanding the folder structure properly?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I guess now it's time for me to pass on my knowledge to you...

Use WinSCP, which is was the easiest for me to use to upload the roms to the ipod touch.
You just need a few things to connect to it, the host, which you can find under wifi settings, I'm not sure but it comes out to something like
192.168.X.X, username and password are all the same which is root for login and alpine for password. Once connected, there should be several folders... I'm not sure about the names since I don't currently have my ipod with me but you should see a folder named var/private/mobile/ but just those I think so you will have to create the remaining 2 folders and the whole folder structure should look something like var/private/mobile/ROMs/NES then just upload the roms here and I think that's it... Again, I'm not sure about the folder structure so do your research as I did mine, it took me a week to figure out that between jailbreaking the ipod to uploading the roms only takes a few minutes.

Remember to change the password for root since it's well known. Either that or use Boss Prefs which will turn on and off SSH as needed.
