Looking for some RAM

Well I am upgrading this Christmas season and I will need some RAM that will do 180MHz FSB so I was thinking of some PC3200, I dont want to spend much on it. Its going into a KX7 so I wont be able to OC much above 180 or so. Its my main mobo now and top speed now is 2.15 at 172*12.5 and I know the board is the limit.

So I need some RAM for this board because the RAM thats in it now will go into my NF7-S. After looking on Newegg I found some Buffalo sticks for $36 that should have winbond chips after looking at their specs page.

I have never owned or used any Buffalo RAM before. Anybody have any comments on this RAM stick that shows to have Winbond chips in it. Comments please.

After looking at the review for it, the reviewer had it to 228. Thats a bonus really. For $36 I think its a steal as long as it works reliably.

IMO, you should spend the extra $$ for 2 512MB sticks. Going from 512MB to 1GB makes a noticeable difference in XP.

    It most certainly does.

Its a folding computer ONLY. 256 will suffice. And it will have 2k on it as well.

I have 512 of some PC3500 Kingston HyperX for the NF7 I will be getting.

Then you'll be happy with that Buffalo memory, to be certain.

Winbond chips are the best the world has ever seen.

So do you think they are Winbond chips? The specs page say DD4002-S256/WC are Winbond but Newegg only says DD4002-S256. Buffalo lists no other DD4002-S256 so I assume they are all Winbond chips.

I have read how well they OC and that the BH-5 chips love voltage.

The probability that they're Winbond is in the 85-90% range on those modules.

    Me too. :D

I would get some if I wasn't already sitting on 1GB of Corsair 3500 with Winbond chips, and a half gig of Corsair 3200 with Winbond chips.

Mark, in reply to your response in the pub, the memory I'm getting for Christmas is that Kreton brand that newegg sells for $40. I asked about it here a couple of weeks ago and Mackanz seems to think it will be some pretty good stuff. I'm planning to use it in my A7N8X 1.04 mobo as a folding rig and that board is only stable out to 185 fsb or so. If it runs good there with this Kreton ram, it might be another choice for you too.

i just got me a stick of the 512mb Kreton from newegg @ $70...still testing though..sandra says upto 200mhz @ CL2.5...and the KX7 should hit close if not 200fsb...u prolly wont have alot of pci cards in a folding machine...i know my realtek nic cards run 40pci fine..

Well now I have a Realtek NIC, and Live! on the PCI bus and a R8500LE on the AGP bus. Plus all the IDE devices. I know I can get to 180FSB ok with a lower multi. I havent really tried to find the max FSB because I know its limited to the buses being out of spec.

When I will retire it from being my main machine it will have the realtek nic and another cheapo PCI video card of some sort. And anyways I am not looking for max performance on the FSB but rather max MHz for folding. Thus the reason for 172 FSB now and not 180.
