Nor Sure Where To Ask This

Hi,

before I go into too much detail or worry about HijackThis logs etc... I have what may be a silly question.

I was just checking my startup entries in msconfig (as I do now and again, to see what I can disable) and I have 3 "blank" entries - they have no entry at all under 'Startup Item' or 'Command' and all 3 have 'Location':
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I dont have any other particular issues with my pc, but I dont ever remember seeing these before - can anyone shed some light on this please?

Please download SWReg and save it to C:\WINDOWS\System32.

• Copy the contents of the Code Box below to Notepad.
• Name the file as look.bat.
• Change the Save as Type to All Files.
• and Save it on the Desktop.

swreg.exe query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" >> C:\look.txt

Then double-click on the look.bat file. A window will briefly appear and disappear. This is normal.

Browse to C:\look.txt and open the notepad document.

Copy and paste the contents of the document in your next post.

Not yet... as I said, wasnt aware of them before - and thought I would ask the gurus before doing anything. Should I disable them now?

It seems that these blank entries are:

PCDrProfiler

Related to RCProfiler part of PC Doctor software installed for some machines. Disabling or enabling it is down to your preference. Note: Located in \%Program Files%\Fujitsu Hardware Diagnostics Tool\

NWEReboot

Temporary file used during the installation of Ahead Nero CD/DVD burning software.

and probably

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\OptionalComponents

This is probably related to Windows components of some sort (having to do with mail and messenger perhaps).


Please read Why is there a blank entry in my msconfig startup entries? by Ask Leo before doing enything.

Backup your registry first if you are going to disable these items (in the case you don't need them).

It all helps perfectly, thanks.

The main concern I had was regarding malware of some kind, but, due to the lack of any other issues - I assumed it was all probably ok.

I will probably do a reg backup and then delete the offending entries at some point, but I am not in too much of a hurry for that.
