Assemblying the Prometeia Mach II

I thought i could share some experiences while i am putting it all together.

First off, we have to seal the backside of the mobo with the backplate and sealstring. Put a round of string on the edge around the plate and push gently but hard to the mainboard. Note, there is only one set of cables coming out from the heater inside. From the picture, it looks like 2 sets.
Edit//After furher investigation and looking more closely in the manual, the brackets on each side of the mobo is supposed to be mounted the same way.
Here is a pic on how it's supposed to be:

How much does this thing cost again (unit and the tools necessary, and # hours of assembly)

$800 and about 24 hours of assembly the first time. After that when you get used to it, it takes much less.

Then we have to put a round of string around it all to make sure that there are no leaks:

Lets flip the board over and to be on the safe side, have the socketholes covered with sealstring:

There are 2 different core-shims with the cpu kit. One for T-Bred/Barton and one for the old Palomino core. Here is the Barton shim:

Time to put the bracket around the socket. Just use the screws, screwed in as levers and squeeze the bracket on, just like a normal heatsink. I am a little worried that the bracket is kinda loose and i'm not sure if it's supposed to be that. It doesn't fall of or so but it feels loose. Have to hunt down some info about that.

Next up is the plastic mounting bracket. We need 2 layers of seal on that. There are small pins on this bracket in case there are components on the mainboard pcb that gets in the way. If a component gets in the way, just use a knife to cut it off. Here is the bracket sealed.

A couple of laps of string around the coolinghead:

It's now installed in the case. The backside bracket is a tad thick so the mainboard has to be "bended" a little.

There are a 'few' mods to that board. I see caps all over the place on the underside of the motherboard and wires soldered on top. And now a Mach 2.

Yup, well see what she goes for soon. The vdimm mod have never worked but i have now replaced the VR for it. Need to beef up the 3.3V line as well in the psu.

    Finished!

There where some problems due to that the unit is next to the pc case and the cabel to the power on switch was too short. I also had to redo all watercooling since the cpu block is removed. Tapped all water, added fresh water and zerex, tested for leaks, got rid of all air. Some job!

This case is now as cramped as it gets and i can only wonder what it would look like with the Enlight case that is supposed to be on top of the unit.

Very nice mac! when do you expect some numbers on that?

yeah, youre going to get one crazy overclock with that type of cooling, I wish i had 800 dollars to spare :bawling:

I'm gonna remove the coolinghead just to make sure that i had good contact since this is the first assembly. Better to be safe than sorry with these things. I might add a few spacers to add more pressure. So later today, i'll post some numbers.

Since the Mach II is on the side of the Antec, abnormal pressure is given to the cooling hose. I had to bend/twist it a lot. I'm thinking of putting the Antec on top of it the way it was designed to be. That will probably make it the highest tower i have ever seen.

Removed the cooling head and as you can see, there wasn't 100% contact.

I then decided to put the Antec on top of the Mach II. I now know what the term "Full Tower" means =/

and looks like you're using too much thermal paste IMO... ;)

Congrats on the new toy, my envy is indescribable... :D

Nice setup mack. BTW in another thread where i asked a lot about wc you told me to run a tube to the top of the case as you've done in these pics and you also told me to block of the tube but didn't say how. I was thinking about a valve but noticed that you used a Y-connector. Is this a good method.

Also this comp sounds a lot right. If you turned on a delta next to the case would you hear it. :)

    Equito,

I agree, but it's suggested to use a little more than usual. Besides, it gets pushed to the sides anyway.

    Eyesonly,

I'm just about to start it so i don't know about the noise. I do know it has a reostat on the 2 120mm fans it uses for it's radiator and rear cooling though. A "Y" or a "T" will do just fine. Just put it just before the suction side of the pump as it's VERY easy to fill the line that way. Filling and draining of air took less than 30 minutes that way. Just make sure it is at the highest point of the loop.

You mean if you had better contact it would've been squeezed aside right? and why they recommend more? is it because the head is so rough?
What about that crack on the white stuff? does it matter?
  • TheLostSwedeTheLostSwede Trondheim, Norway Icrontian
    edited December 2003
That crack is just a little sealstring that i didn't clean off. Dunno why they suggest a little more goop, but it works.

This is probably the last message from this Lappy, the Mach II is up and running Folding at 1.85 volts. Looking good :)

Not bad at 2654 mhz and 1.95 volts on the core. This is at Folding and full torture test with Prime 95.
Remember that Bios D10 shows at least 10c too much compared to some other bioses. On water, this chip didn't even do 2.5.

At the low noise setting, it's as quiet as a very good WC setup. In other words, the harddrives is the noisiest parts in the rig. That's with both fans in the Mach II at 900 rpm's. (2 X120mm Panaflo) When i turn them up to about 1500rpm, i can hear them slightly but not annoying at all. At full blast, it sounds like a tornado. I still have my wc setup online in the case as you can see so all in all, i have added 2 120mm fans as far as noise is concerned, but the rig is just slightly more noisy. I will throw out the 2 WD se harddrives i have and replace them with a big one (Samsung 160GB SATA, 8mb cache) so the rig will be wispering quiet even if i have sub-zero cooling. I'm a happy camper. The temps have imroved since the last screenie. This is at full load F@H since the last 20 hours:

That's the whole point with this type of cooling ;)
