i have two sticks of 256mb pc3500 corsair.

however, cpu-z says they're pc-3200, and they will not boot at the advertised 3200 timings (even at 2.8v).

so what im wondering is, does corsair cover this in their "lifetime warranty"?

    PC3200 is how all high speed memory reads under SPD, as it's the highest/fastest JDEC standard. So, that part is normal, even if you have PC4200.

    Next, what mobo are you trying to run them on? What cpu?

    you read my thread :-D

    IS7 w/ a 2.8C
    the chips kind of weak, but at 215 fsb what im getting are ram errors, memtest doesn't pass

    If you have questions about Corsair memory, go ask the Ram Guy here at the house of help . This is Corsair's official forums for asking for help with their memory products and is also where you apply for RMA. I had a stick of Corsair registered go bad and that's where I went to RMA it. :rockon:

    I don't know what motherboard you are running, but you could use the divider in the BIOS to run FSB/memory at 5:4. That way you could increase your FSB while keeping your memory closer to factory specifications.

    OK I think I just figured it out, he has PC3500 RAM, and it is only showing up as 3200. What he needs to do is simply Overclock to the specified speeds. The IS7 only has 1:1 and 4:5 divider... but I canot remember what all he should try.

    Baron, I am not sure if you like to overclock or not, but if you don't, then PC3200 is where you are stuck at, as the IS7 only supports upto PC3200 levels. If you don't mind overclocking, then simply up the FSB to 434MHz. Your CPU should be able to handle that...

    217x2 = 434 x 2 = 868 No problem for that P4 2.8C I have sene them go as high as 250MHz on stock cooling.

    Well that must be the ****tiest P4C ever produced then... or your RAM needs to be replaced.

    I would goto the Corsair House of Help then... see if you can get an RMA.

    Next question, were they sold as a package, ie, TwinX? If not, Corsair are gonna ask you to test 1 stick at a time and if they work, too bad for you. If they WERE sold as a matched pair, I'm not sure what they'll say and would add my vote to the above noted suggestion to post on Corsair's forum, you'll probably get an RMA.

    I suggest testing with 1 stick anyways, to see if you can find your chip's limitations that way.

    The 865/875 boards are notoriously picky about what memory they like in dual. I haven't done the reading on your specific board but bet there's lots out there (forums of [H], EOC, OC.com, Abit, etc.) on this subject.
