Just like the 4870 X2 was a way to thrust ATI back in the lead for the fastest "single" card over NVIDIA's 280.

Usually means lower prices for older cards so ya, +1 from me too. Also, I thought we did have this type of competition until Intel came out with the C2Ds. C'mon AMD, get back in there. :[

Newer cards. Imagine what a 4870X2 would cost without the 280 nipping at its heals, or vice versa. The 280 was close to $600 when it first came out. Within two weeks of AMD launching the ATI 4870X2, the 280's price was cut in half.

Yea, it's amazing what prices do with competition. Just imagine how cheap Intel would be if AMD was actually a competitor to their leading chips.
