Corsair Dominator 8500 and MSI P45 fix.

edited December 2008 in Hardware
while its highly unlikely that there are other people using this combination of hardware out there on this forum and even more unlikely that it is unstable, i just thought id share in case someone with this particular problem comes along.

my dominators were unstable running at their spec'd speed of 1066. even running at 800 they would crap out on me occasionally.i tried raising the vdimm all the way to 2.35. finally i found the fix on the MSI forums.

just lower your DRam Ref Voltage back to 0.975 or 0.955. :)

So you were saying that default vDIMM was too high?

no. the default vdimm is slightly too low for the MSI board because theres not enough headroom for errors. likewise the reference voltage is too high. so i run the vdimm currently at about 2.2 and the reference voltage at 0.975. its stable folding the whole day and could run memtest for 4 hours.
