Possible Keylogger

I've been playing an MMO, everything was fine and all until I got an email about my account being accessed by an "unauthorized source" and was put on a 24 hour suspension period pending investigation. I don't know how and I don't know where I got it from, and I already have a few protection software and I run spyware scans regularly. No one else knows about my account name and information, so I'm pretty sure it was done by a keylogger. Problem is, I don't even know where it is. I've looked through some previous threads, and nothing seemed to jump out at me. I've run Spybot, Ad-Aware and AntiVir scans, which all came up empty (other than tracking cookies).

Any help will be appreciated.

No, that's only a registry data. There are no malicious files there according to MBAM.

Let's do one more scan, but this time with Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Note: Internet Explorer should be used

    • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
    • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
    • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
    • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
      • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      • Archives
    • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
    • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
    • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
    • Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
    • Copy and paste the report into your next reply.

    You're clean. Nothing suspicious found.

Let's do one more thing, just to make sure.

    • Please download Random's System Iformation Tool (RSIT) and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
    • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
    • Once it has finished, two logs will open.
    • Please post the contents of both log.txt (will be maximized) and info.txt (will be minimized)
  • edited December 2008
Alright, I guess I can feel safer somewhat. Once my game account gets released from suspension notice, I'm going to try logging in again but if it gets compromised again, then there is a real issue on my hands.

I do however, have a laptop. Would it be possible that the keylogger be on that computer instead?

    Edit: Took out attachments.

Please do not attach your logs, it make my job harder. Post them in parts if needed, will you?

This event is generated when a logon session is created. It is generated on the computer that was accessed.

The subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The logon type field indicates the kind of logon that occurred. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The New Logon fields indicate the account for whom the new logon was created, i.e. the account that was logged on.

The network fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
    - Logon GUID is a unique identifier that can be used to correlate this event with a KDC event.
    - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
    - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
    - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

It's clean. Do you have Norton Internet Security installed?

Please Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps:
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    • It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    • Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    • click the Make Writeable? button.
    • click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program

Go to Control Paned and Add/Remove Programs.

Uninstall Java(TM) 6 Update 4 as it is a security risk.

Alright, I uninstalled that Java update, but what is HostsXpert supposed to do?

Edit: Norton is included, but not set-up currently on this PC.

I would say your computer is clean. :)

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

    Clean up System Restore

You can find instructions on how to disable and enable System Restore from these guides:

    Disable And Enable System Restore
    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Make Your Internet Explorer More Secure

This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the tools menu and then click on Options
    • Click once on the "Security" tab
    • Click once on the "Internet" icon so it becomes highlighted
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the "Download signed ActiveX" controls to Prompt
      • Change the "Download unsigned ActiveX" controls to Disable
      • Change the "Initialize and script ActiveX controls" not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the "Launching programs and files in an IFRAME" to Prompt
      • Change the "Navigate sub-frames across different domains" to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Note that Internet Explorer is not the most secure browser. There are safer (and better) alternatives available like Opera and Firefox.

Keep Your System Up to date

It is imperative that you keep your Windows, Antivirus, and other softwares up to date. Otherwise you are not protected against new threats and your system is vulnerable and unsafe. Update your Antivirus software at least once a week, and visit Microsoft Windows Update site regularly.

    Install SpywareBlaster

SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware, Hijackers, and Malware

Additional Utilities and Tips to Enhance Your Safety
    • MVPS Hosts file --- The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
    • Comodo BOCLEAN --- Stop identity thieves from getting personal information. Instantly detects well over 1,000,000 unique, variant and repack malware in total. And it's free.
    • Winpatrol --- Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. A tutorial for this product is located here: Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software
