I just installed VMware Server 2.0 in order to dabble with Folding@Home in a VMware virtual machine. Installation went smoothly with no problems at all. I accepted the default operating ports for VMware.

When I tried to start VMware, it would not. VMware opens through the web browser. This is the address that is in the browser upon startup: https://[computer name]/ui. The default browser for VMware server is IE, of which mine is IE 7 with all updates. Attempts with IE each time resulted in "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Attempts with Firefox (lates) resulted in "Failed to Connect."

I checked Windows Firewall, which I keep turned off anyway, but found that the two VMware virtual network adapters were checked by the firewall. I turned that off and ensured their were exceptions checked for the adaptors. Same results - no go.

I found this discussion on the Internet and tried the solutions posted there, including renaming 127.0.0.1 to 127.0.0.1 [computer name] in hosts file. I also reinstalled VMware Server and manually entered ports 80 and 443 as the access ports. No go.

Any possible solutions, guys?

Any services to check?
Any router settings to check?

I'm weak on networking so any help would be appreciated.
