BFG 9800 GTX+ OC issues.

Hey,

I recently have received the BFG 9800 GTX+ OC, and have been experiencing problems with it.

I took it out of the packaging as expected and inserted it into the PCI-e 16x slot (on a MSI G31M-F). The card requires 2 6pin power cables and I'm powering it with a Thermaltake PurePower 500w psu. The psu only has one 6pin power cable, however I used two peripheral power cables with the adapter that came packaged with the card.

So I had the proper cables plugged in for it and I made sure to uninstall my onboard video drivers. There shouldn't be any problem here, right? Well, when I turned on the computer I got no video signal on the monitor, and blank screen. Lights are on, but no one is home. I've switched DVI inputs to make sure I'm using the right one, but nothing made a difference. Just a blank screen.

And another odd thing, I got no audible double beep, like I would previous to having a video card on my mobo.

To test things out, I replaced my 9800 GTX+ with my friend's EVGA 9800 GT. I booted up normally and with a double beep.

So what's going on? I'm getting no tell-tale beeps when I plug in my GTX+, so I haven't a single hunch as to what is wrong here.

Any additional information I need to provide?

    Is your power supply a multi-rail supply? If so, connect each 6-pin from a different 12v rail.

    I know the psu is multi-rail, but how can I tell I'm not using from the same rail? And I assume it's okay that one of the 6pins will be powered by (adapter) the two peripheral cables, right?

    Connect the regular six pin, and use the adapter to connect the second six pin from the cable chain that has the least devices connected to it. Let's see if it's just a matter of balancing the load.

    Thanks for all your help so far, Thrax. But I'm gonna have to put this on hold..

    Yesterday I tipped my tower over and now I assume my psu has gone to hell. My pc keeps shutting off at Windows load screen.

    :(

    However, I'm still open for help. ;)

    If your computer was running when you tipped it over, it may have caused the hard drive write heads to scramble some files. Can you get into Safe Mode? If so, try setting a Check Disk operation. That might fix the problem...the Windows problem.

    Tipping over the tower shouldn't harm the PSU, unless the accident was so bad it caused really bad electrical shorting in the computer.

    I have the same probleme with the same card bought yesterday....with a blank screen one long beep and three short bip... window load ,i hear the music...my fan on the card turn...

    Change power supply....I have update Bios.....check Bios for PCIE (on) and plug and play (on).


    My xfx GEforce 7900GT 256 Mg work so..

    I use Window XP... mother board Asus A8N-E

    What is the brand, model, and power rating of your new power supply?

    OCZ stealth X stream... power supply...500 Watts

    I have AVG 8 has a anti virus...will it stop the card to be reconise by the mother board or the systeme???

    The symptoms described could logically describe a power supply problem, but at least with RedKetchup, I would think the StealthXstream would be sufficient. I have a StealthXstream 600 powering a 9800GX2 plus an overclocked Q6600. It handles it with ease. I don't think the 9800GX2 + OC Q6600 would fare well with a 500 of any brand. How does the power draw of a 9800GTX OC compare to a GX2? It would seem the GTX draws less power and that the Stealth 500 would be enough. (sorry, I don't have time look up the details - still at work)

    some came from the factory screwed up the chips on the gpu board are not seated properly i have a 400w psu with this card it runs fine. try a heat gun an reseat the chip look it up on youtube or but i dont advise this but a friend did it preheat your oven to 385f take every thing off the board place it on four aluminium balls on a cookie sheet
    in the oven for ten to twelve mins... an let it cool for twenty mins.. or so i've seen this done with my own eyes so dont knock it...
