Anyone have an Epox Nforce2 board?

I know that most overclockers prefer the Asus and Abit boards, but does anyone here have an Epox?
I have the Epox 8RDA+, mind you the memory that I have is real garbage (Infineon pc2700 sold as "Brand Name" that freezes at around 140 FSB) and cannot really explore the capabilities of this board as far as overclocking is concerned, but I can always use the multipliers to overclock my XP 2100, apart from that, it's a very stable and rock solid board, and I wonder why more people aren't using one.
Just curious!

I thought that the 8rda+ was a nice overclocker? Most people on the amdmb forums seem to think so too.

The 8RDA+ was the first overclocker boards; but we here at this community found that almost every..single..one of them died at 5-7 months.

    That's why we all have NF7-S 2.0s.

I have one.. sitting on my floor. It still works, probably one of the longest lasting ones here, but I wanted an ABIT NF7-S.

Anyway, it did 200 easy.. not sure how much beyond that because just recently I found out that my CPU won't go over 200FSB unless L12 modded.

My brother is buying it in mid Feb.. so I might see what it'll do then.

It also has a slight VDIMM problem/blessing. Reads 3.2V in BIOS no matter what, I haven't gotten time to really measure it.

Uh oh! mine is around 8 months old. Does that mean that when I aquire some quality ram that it will die abruptly when I try to overclock the hell out of it?
Edit: My second choice when I was deciding was the Abit NF7S. I don't believe that I made a mistake in choosing the Epox at the time, nor do I have any regrets, at least not yet.

hopefully not, I have an 8RDAE (got it courtesy of NVIDIA), its the same as the + but with the Ultra northbridge but with absolutely no add-ons (no lan, nothing). Its hit 210 ish but my ram copps out there. Its not stable but I haven't found the problem yet.

Forgive my curiosity, but is the unstability due to the high fsb, or is it due to some other hardware related issue?

    Hi..

This may be a bit late, but I have an 8RDA+ rev2.1, running very stable at fsb 225 (DDR450) using a Kingston hyperX 3000 (default 185 mhz) with settings at cas2,3,3,8. Earlier it was running at fsb 212 with a Twinmos ddr400 with the TMD chips. The rest:

    Athlon T'bred xp 1.63@2.25ghz (225 x 10); Vcore - 1.75v; Vdimm - 2.7+v

    Emil

edit: i know this mb can go higher if i used better memory, perhaps a hyperX 3200 or 3500....

    Resident Epox Evangelist here!

I've owned 2 Epox 8RDA+ and both did 200+mhz. the stock boards were GREAT.....BUT...Early NF2 mobos (Abit's and Epox's) had a problem they would seemingly die if overclocked too far. Others killed their boards with chipset voltage mods.

I like both both Abit and Epox but I buy TWICE as many EPox mobos as Abit!

    EPoX ROCK!

    hello old friends, couldn't sleep.

anyways, i ordered my 8rda jan 28, 2003. still running strong.

i guess that jb welding that stock axp heatsink onto the chipset wasnt' such a bad idea. :D

my 8rda+ bought from summer last year is still going strong, it got the A3 stepping NB, best fsb i got out of it without mods are 205 fsb. It's still operating, i just swapped it with my NF7-S, now it's got a 2500+ in it. not a bad board, maybe i was juts lucky.

Actually, that's an understatement. Stick with Omega - he'll hold your hand through any Epox issue might encounter. Hand-holding, er, in a fraternal sense, I think? :eek3:

I've had many Epox boards over the past couple of years--have had several 8K3A+, 8K5A2+, and 8K5A3+ boards (which I was very pleased with at the time), and I currently have four 8RDA+ based systems (three on board revision 1.1 and one on board revision 2.1) and two 8RDA3+ based systems (both revision 2.x).

My experience with the 8RDAx series is that the revision 2.x boards are awesome and the 1.x boards are hit and miss. Two of the 1.1 8RDA+ boards will do 200MHz FSB, one will only do 190MHz. The 2.x 8RDA+ and both of the 8RDA3+ boards will do 200+MHz on the FSB (in fact, I just upped one of the 8RDA3+ boards to 225MHz FSB the other day after having some problems that sent me into the BIOS -- outcome being problems fixed and board running at 10x225 instead of 11x200.)

Bottom line? Epox makes some pretty good boards, most of the time.
