Buying Hardware from the US

{This is mainly directed to Short and Mack}

I was still looking into buying a new AXP and motherboard (as I now have nearly 300 quid (yes, I'm using my poundsignless-laptop agaon)) and due to the constant dropping of the strength of the dollar, it seems more and more like a good idea to import it from the US, as even with import tax, it will still cost a lot less (that is if you even get hit with import tax).

Take for example, a;
Athlon 3200+ and Asus AV8-Max3 -
Komplett - £319 + £130 = £449
New Egg - $404 + $164 = $568 (£317 | £370 with Import Tax )

So basically, even with import tax, it's better buying from the US as you will save quite a bit. Obviously it isn't the best idea to buy the Athlon 64 3200+ at the moment, but if the Dollar stays where it is, or gets weaker, it may be a good option.

Thoughts?

    Most hardware sites don't do international shipping. Your best bet may be to find someone in the U.S., preferably on the east coast (to minimize shipping costs) that'd be willing to place an order for you, have you pay them, and then ship it to you.

    Already know that. Did you look at the other thread about the 3200+? As that was already discussed quite a bit in there.

    I saw that thread, but it hasn't been active in a while (I don't think) and my memory isn't all that great sometimes...

    Fair enough.
    Yeah, it's been dead for a while, and I thought getting someone to ship it over would be the best idea but no-one wanted to do it, though I am just throwing around ideas for Shorty and Mack as I am sure someone would ship it over for them and they could save quite a bit.

    Well, if I had a credit card I'd do it but I don't so that's why I never offered.

    Well, The only one that have sent me stuff from the US is a relative in Florida. EQuito helped me out on another deal, but i collected it in Protland, Oregon when i was there for work.

    Fry's website sends international. http://shop1.outpost.com/template/help/index/FE30/Service3/Assistance/Middle_Topics/A3InternationalShipping

    Frys are a lot more expensive than NewEgg, and the chance of getting hit by import tax is greatly increased when buying from a retailer directly :(

    have a shortmedia setup a pay pal account.. transfer your funds into that account and have prime order and ship it for you... but its kinda all up to him... He might even beable to apply for a resellers license so he gets things cheaper and he can sell it to you at list price that way he makes a couple bucks on each order for his time and effort. This would work really good for canadians as being in detroit they could drive in to canada and ship it.. or someone could meet him at the border... kinda complicated but heh what are friends for...

    Bying hardware from the us might be cheaper but i like to be close to where i'm ordering from. Makes me feel safer if i ever need to return anything. BTW http://www.newegg.com/app/faq_shipping.asp#24 says that they're not shipping int'll. If prime or someone else would like to do it then it might be a good idea.

    I KNOW. I have said about 4 times that the idea was to get someone to ship it over due to 2 reasons stated earlier.

    The value of the $ is still dropping which is making it more and more of a reason to buy from the US though....
