Winbond CH-5?

Are the CH-5 chips as good as the BH-5s? Also, is anyone (besides Mushkin) still guaranteeing BH-5 chips?

How much worse are the CH5s, then?

If I'm mistaken then I'm sure someone will correct me, but I believe (DDR400 timings) BH-5 can do CAS2 2-2-5/2-2-6, while CH-5 can do CAS2 2-3-5/2-3-6.

are there any utilities that will identify the chips of those sticks with pre-installed heat spreaders?

im curious whats under them, but not enough to void the warranty to find out.

As far as I know there isn't.
The info that programs like CPU-Z and SiSoft Sandra get the ram info from is in the SPD which tells the bios what timings to run the ram at for certain speed settings.

CH5 are much more limited in what clock max they have, assuming you are able to apply high (3.1+) volts to them. ie., BH5 will do 250+, CH5 I don't recall seeing over 220ish though I stand to be corrected. DDR433 is *just about* the end of the line when talking CH5. There was a rumour (which I have repeated a couple of times, I don't mean to perpetuate it as I have no *real* knowledge here) that CH5 have some sort of onboard voltage regulation maxing them at 2.8ish.

AJ2 is correct on timings also. AFAIK there is no utility which will read the chip and tell you which it is under the heatspreader.

Ok I have both types of chips on TwinMos ram and at 200fsb they will both do 5.2.2.2 in dual channel mode.

However the I've had the BH-5 chips upto 235fsb before and I think they would go higher but the board crapped out on me. I've not been able to test the CH-5 chips as my current board wont go above 215fsb.

I wonder if I have got BH-5 under my heatspreader as well.
It is Corsair XMS3200 bought around April last year.
They are doing 11-2-2-2 at standard voltage at 200 Mhz.

Jimborae set your Tras at 11 it should give you a small bandwith boost.
    nForce2 specialty.

I know OCZ used to, but I'm not sure about the current situation. However, Al_Capown guarantees BH5 on his memory modules

I have BH-5 chips on my Twinmoss and they SUCK. Won't even do 2-2-2-6 at 190 :(

I would be suspect of TwinMOS's PCB at that point.

MJO, despite wot others have said I find that tip only work with certain set ups, When I was using an XP1700 it was still faster to use 5.2.2.2 according to Sandra, however now I'm using a Barton XP and yes 11.2.2.2 is quicker.

I had almost no gain from using Tras 11 compared to Tras 6.
But the score increased a little bit.

That might be the problem then Enverex.
I have had 2 sticks of 512mb BH5 as well, actually 4 if i include a pair of Level 2 memorys. None where good enough. 256 sticks overclocks much better.
