I think the best decision MS made was being able to install any new version over the old ones...I mean seriously, talk about easy to use!

I signed up with Windows Live and received a Product key for both Windows 7 beta 64 and 32. Are those keys good for future beta releases and/or the release candidate? The beta was no longer available for download from Microsoft, so I haven't installed anything yet. (no, I don't want to mess with torrents)

At least as of yesterday, I did not find the download location for Build 7105.

Yes. They'll work for any beta/RC build of Ultimate.

If you don't want to mess with the torrents, Leo, you'll be waiting for RC1 to come directly out of Microsoft. All these intermediate builds are on torrents, the only official releases were 7000 (the beta), and RC1 when it comes out.

So then, that begs two more questions:

Are all the current beta release Ultimate?

When the retail version is released, and I wish to make a permanent Windows 7 installation through the full or 'upgrade' option, will I have to purchase the "Ultimate" edition in order avoid a format and clean install?

Well, I may have to change my mind about torrents. It's been a while since I've used them. I don't even have a torrent program installed now. What's a good for this particular task - Windows 7 beta?

All the current versions are ultimate. Nobody knows if you can upgrade an Ultimate beta to a Professional or Home Premium copy.

uTorrent and this link will work for you, though there are many other clients and locations.

Also, technically, don't the later builds allow you to choose non-Ultimate versions of the beta to install? So if you wanted to be adventurous, you might wait until RC1 anyway and just install a Pro version and cross your fingers it'll let you upgrade to full Pro when it arrives.

If you're going to Torrent, you're better off downloading the most recent available build: http://bit.ly/7068x64
