New processor blues, need help!

Hey, haven't been on in a long time but here's my setup:

Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 (rev 1.0)
2x ATI 3870's
2gb of 1066 Patriot ram
AMD 6400 x2 (current)
500w psu (dual rail 13A)

I want to upgrade to:
AMD Phenom II 920 X4

Other sites suggest bios update, but there are 2 that people suggest, F5 or F6. I've tried both bios updates, neither will post with the phenom.

The motherboard hesitates and makes a slow beep (not the post beep) and thats all it does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Corey

After breakfast? When it's dropped on the floor?

When does the motherboard do what you described?

First you gotta get it to post. Pull everything except one stick of ram and one video card and see if you can get it to boot. Double check your connections and clear the CMOS for kicks.

Gigabyte says use F6. You can get it here.

well i've tried f6 and it still wouldn't post, and the 6400 has the same voltage, so it cant be a power issue... i'm confused..

Just realized the 4-pin atx connector was actually 8-pin with a cover. Does this mean i need an 8-pin to use this quad?

It wouldn't hurt, What are the full specs of your PSU? 2-13a rails feeding 2 vid cards and a quad might be to much.

Donut, that is exactly what I was thinking, it may be a 500 watt rated supply, but if its only showing two 13Amp rails, I doubt its enough to get the job done, he was just probably just getting by with the prior setup.

I would suggest a better quality power supply.

...4th on the PSU. Do what Buddy J posted and use just one stick of RAM and one vid cardfirst.
