WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24th, 2009:
Passage to India

Passage to India has officially passed from "once a food tour destination" to the hallowed "IC gathering tradition". No matter what, people will beg and plead to go here every time, because it's just that good.

We will be going to Passage to India on Wednesday evening as a bonus to those who come early.

From the description I used in 2007:
This place really immerses you in the Indian culture. I'm telling you, walking through the door is like stepping through a wormhole to Calcutta. You TRULY feel like you are in India when you enter this place.

The service, in typical Indian fashion, is brusque and professional. Don't expect smiley happy waiters. This food is authentic and excellent, and the staff knows it. You must try the poori (round puffy bread) as it is the best I've had at any Indian restaurant, almost as good as homemade. The vindaloo is fiery, the makhani is sweet and creamy, the biryani is an explosion of flavor.

And I think this says it all, from Annes:

[blockquote]I had tried several places before Passage to India and I thought I hated Indian food as well. Now I crave Indian like nothing else.[/blockquote]

What time? Is it possible to arrive on Tuesday for a small additional fee?

What day did we go to Passage to India last year? I don't remember it, must have skipped it.

I remember the Mexican joint that we got lost going to, I remember Sala Thai, and Hu Hot...

We usually do food tour ~6pm. You can come whenever you like; there's a questionnaire on the registration form to let us know when you're planning to arrive. :)

2007, not 2008. We go there frequently during non-food-tour times though. I think we went during Oktoberfest iirc.

Thanks, Prime and Linc. Just registered two attendees with Paypal. As long as it's ok, Rex and I will be arriving around 8PM on Tuesday. We will attend all the Food Tours! I'll post in the carpooling thread, but if anyone from DC/VA/MD is looking for a ride send them our way.

BTW, WTH is the Shaving Demo, Duct Tape Challenge, and Trip to Hatter's?!

Ok, I am flying up a day early just to make it to this stop; the chicken vindaloo is to die for there.

Passage to India was the first time I've had Indian food and it was excellent. I also shared a table with Canti, Pigflipper, and FreshyP so the conversation was excellent as well ;)

I don't normally do Indian but passage to india was just that. Beautiful food even for a person like me who cannot digest spicy food. The Korma was sensational and the service was excellent!

Yeah... they have done a great job handling 20+ geeks flooding in and taking over their restaurant.

Don't miss this place, second to none. I can't wait. We do have to sneak out to Little Tree for lunch though!

Korma doesn't sound or look that good, but if made right, it's delicious.

I called Passage to India today to book our spot.

The manager was thrilled to hear from me. He remembered us, said "oh yes, you're from the party from Warren! I remember from last two years!" and now we're on a first name basis (I am "Mr. Brian") :D

They're closing the restaurant just for us. We own it while we're there. VIP!

Are we supposed to be reserving spots for the food tour now, or is it a whoever wants to go when it's time to drive over there kind of a thing?

It was in the registration form. I'll be making lists and checking for changes after reg closes tomorrow.
