My friends had this saying, "that'll happen about the same time as when Duke Nukem Forever comes out". It's more fun and geeky to say than "when pigs fly". But I'm really sad that it actually came true... sad face... of sadness.

The last trailer I saw about a year ago looked about as pollished as a N64 game, that was a good indicator to me that this game was never going to see the light of day.

Duke had his run, its done, sincerlely I think 3D gaming has evolved way past this type of game. I am nostalgic like most, but honestly, it was not gong to make a AAA title.

    Let it finaly rest.

Apparently you never saw the latest trailers. It easily looked better than Doom 3.

What I saw was about a year ago, N64 might be pushing it, but it definitely was not in the area of Doom 3.

Sometimes I wonder if its just an inside joke, toss out another nugget about it, see how dedicated the fanboys are.

The last teaser was viewable in HD and was what you'd expect from a modern FPS. Probably not the one you saw, but earlier teasers did look crappy compared to the latest one. Of the few split seconds of "gameplay" footage, it safe to compare to a Doom 3 enviroment. That was back in late 2007.

That screen shot reminds me of my desire for a Commander Keen FPS.

There is some youtube video up with people playing it at PAX. I guess if its playable, its happening...

Still, I could not care less. Duke Nukem is a crusty relic from gamings past, no need to revisit it. 3D shooters have evolved so much, and I have little faith that this title will offer anything innovative.

Do you ever have anything pleasant or non-elitist to say?

They should have left that game shelved. It's probably going to be just like every other fps most studios have been crapping out for the past 5 years. Unless they've done something insanely awesome and innovative (that actually took them 12 years to develop) I'm completely uninterested.

Of course. Just visit a PC gaming, ATI or AMD thread.

Good game? Bad game? These things mean nothing to me. All I know is that this makes damn fine news to me on my birthday today. Hell yeah. :vimp:

They could buy the Duke Nukem Forever name, slap it on a TC of Hello Kitty Adventure, and it'll still be a top seller.

Honestly, I don't know why so many people keep saying that DNF needs to innovate. Of all the games that would ever need to NOT innovate, Duke is the one. I don't want a modernistic shooter with Duke's voice in the background. I want a game that has huge guns, lots of blood and violence, swearing and crudeness, and simple objectives. That's what made Duke 3D fun. That's what DNF needs.

As I've said, such gameplay is hardly relevant anymore, so most people probably wouldn't find it compelling. Regardless, it's what DNF should be.

Duke Nukem needs to happen. Seriously, no need for innovation, just straight up shooting fun. Blood, gore, strippers, cheesy dialogue and just sheer fun gameplay.:rockon:

I would like this with Extra Cheese and Supersized Pig Cop gore.

The reason people are saying it is because shooters have come a long way since 1998. If we are going to levy that criticism against tittles like Doom 3 and Quake 4, why give Duke a pass? First person shooters are becoming stale, period.... So many sequels, re treads, revivals, then all the imitations of those, its just a really crowded genre with so few titles that actually offer gamers anything fresh or exciting to spend their hard earned cash on.

Listen, I'm really happy that Duke fans are going to get a chance to have a nostalgia fix. I get it, I have things I feel that way about. I just think the fanboys highly overestimate how relevant Duke Nukem is in 2010. Time will tell.

Don't mistake me for a Duke fanboy. I'm only interested in DNF because of its historical relevance in the gaming industry. I loved Duke 3D, and I'm sure I'll enjoy DNF, but I'll probably never state it to be GotY contender or anything like.

Doom 3 tried to innovate, it failed. Quake 4 strayed from the formula that made Quake 2 strong and had a poor development team. Those two titles are great examples of the opposite of what I said DNF needs to do. You say FPS are stale today? Stale is what we'll get if DNF tries to innovate and follows modern conventions.

Games like Painkiller and Serious Sam were considered fun and unique when they followed the same formula that classic FPS were built upon. Duke is the kind of game that should not attempt to innovate, no matter how irrelevant it may be to modern gamers. Don't make it for the gamers that grew up on the Xbox playing halo, make it for the gamers that grew up playing video games on a 386.
