Quick question. Will the Sonata III 500 case support my mobo? It says on Antec's site that it supports 'motherboards up to standard ATX' and the board is - 4 layers, ATX form factor, 24.5cm (9.64") x 30.5cm (12")? From readind a couple of reviews it seems kind of smallish.
Also, how will the EarthWatts 500W PSU cope with this (below) WITHOUT overclocking anything?

    mobo - DFI LanParty Dark DKP45-T2RS Turbo 775 P45 DDR2 1066 2xPCIeX
    processor - CPU INTEL Core2Duo E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2, 1333FSB LGA775
    RAM - G.SKILL 4GB DDR2-1066 Dual channel kit 8500CL5D-4GBPI
    HDD - WD 640GB 6400AAKS 7200rpm 16MB
optical - DVD RW Pioneer DVR-216D-BK 20X SATA
    graphics - Sapphire ATI HD4850 1GB DDR3 2xDVI/TVO LITE 11132-17-20R, Dual Slot Active Cooler
    case/power - Antec III Sonata, EarthWatts 500W

Antec Sonata to accommodate your motherboard? Yes.

EarthWatts 500W for your system? Yes. It has enough power, but just double check to ensure it has a 6-pin PCI-e connector.

I have used the EarthWatts 500, it has two 6 pin PCIe connectors hard wired. I powered a 780G mobo, Phenom II, and a Radeon 4870 for a while without incident. Its a decent PSU.

OR an Antec 900 case and Antec BP 500W PSU?

The Antec 900 case is a vary nice case and the Antec BP 500W should be pleanty to power the system your looking at getting.

OR an Antec 900 case and Antec BP 500W PSU?

The Antec 900 is a top notch case. Can you get Corsair, OCZ or PC Power & Cooling PSU's there? If so I would get one instead of an Antec PSU. 500 to 650 watts should be just fine from a quality manufacurer.

Unfortunately, none of the three you mentioned are available in Bosnia or Croatia. The best I could find is the Antec BP 500W, Antec TP Trio 550W and a SilverStone SST-OP650 650W 2+1xPCIeX.

Antec is a quality manufacturer. I would go with the Antec TP Trio 550W.

Generally speaking, yes they have been a quality manufacturer. However they have been more hit and miss the past few years. There have also been many customers who have had their Antec PSU's fry after about a year or so. The ones I mentioned as well as the Silverstone mentioned by helicon are generally of a much higher quality.

Guess it all depends on what you call quality. I bought a top of the line best rated highest recommended power supply it lasted 3 months. The next power supply i bought was a no named 500W lasted over 3 years still running to this day. I guess get what ever you have more faith in it really comes down to personal preference.

So is it worth it? To spend an extra 75$ on an Antec Nine Hundred - Antec TP Trio 550W or to stick with Antec Sonata III 500? I guess if you have the money its worth it.

I would go with the Antec 900 and the Antec TP Trio 550W would be a great PC. I have a Antec 900 its a great case. I also have a Antec 500W power supply came with a 3 year warranty in my other PC works great. I have never had any issues with any thing made by Antec.

I still have not started buying stuff for the new system and some prices have gone down recently. So I was thinking of getting the Sapphire ATI HD4870 512MB instead of Sapphire ATI HD4850 1GB but, I've read reviews of it and although its faster it consumes more power. I have settled on the Antec Sonata III 500 case (Antec 900 not available anymore and they won't be ordering it again) so maybe that won't be enough for the Sapphire ATI HD4870 512MB. Any thoughts?

    I have a INTEL core i7 DDR3 ram and a 4850 and 4870 CrossFired on a 600w PSU . ATI 4870 recommends.

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX technology in dual mode)

Your DFI board will support that Dimm voltage just fine.

You know, you could Possibly consider going going with a DFI AM3 board on sale right now, get a less expensive triple core AMD unlocked CPU and DDR3, perform better and actualy save a little on the build.

You would have a new AMD AM3 based system, which is not a dead end platform like the LGA775.

You should consider it. Less money for the board and CPU, perhaps a tiny bit more for the extra RAM bandwidth to balance it, but still, this should outperform and come in about $30 less total if my math is good.

Well, this is bugging me right now. To stick with the original plan and go with this:

    mobo - DFI LanParty Dark DKP45-T2RS Turbo 775 P45 DDR2 1066 2xPCIeX
    processor - CPU INTEL Core2Duo E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2, 1333FSB LGA775
    RAM - G.SKILL 4GB DDR2-1066 Dual channel kit 8500CL5D-4GBPI
    HDD - WD 640GB 6400AAKS 7200rpm 16MB
optical - DVD RW Pioneer DVR-216D-BK 20X SATA
    graphics - Sapphire ATI HD4850 1GB DDR3 2xDVI/TVO LITE 11132-17-20R, Dual Slot Active Cooler
    case/power - Antec III Sonata, EarthWatts 500W

Maybe later upgrade to a better Intel Quad Core, new graphics and more RAM when it gets cheaper OR, with a little more hassle go with something like this:

    mobo - GIGABYTE MA790FXT-UD5P, 790FX/SB750, DDR3, s. AM3
    processor - AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition, s. AM3, 2.8GHz, 7.5MB c.
    RAM - G.SKILL 4GB DDR3-1600 Dual channel kit F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
    HDD - WD 640GB 6400AAKS 7200rpm 16MB
optical - DVD RW Pioneer DVR-216D-BK 20X SATA
    graphics - Sapphire ATI HD4850 1GB DDR3 2xDVI/TVO LITE 11132-17-20R, Dual Slot Active Cooler
    case/power - Antec III Sonata, EarthWatts 500W

    Any extra thoughts?

I would get the AMD configuration with a Phenom II X4 810 instead.

Anyone else? Its a big thing. You don't buy a new computer every month, so I wanna cover my bases. That's why I ask all these questions. (wink)
