Yet another one of my projects

The victim:
My print server; 1.3GHz Celeron-tualatin @ 1.5, Dual P3 board, etc.

The project:
Eliminate the only remaining major (relatively speaking) source of noise, the AMD retail HSF on the CPU with a Zalman FanMate @ near minimum speed.

I picked up an Aerocool DP-101 "Deep Impact" heatsink from Fry's today, since it was only ~$2 more than Newegg, and I wouldn't have to wait for it.

I was going to move a capacitor on the board to allow me to mount this thing, but that kind of fell flat on it's face, so I just took the heatspreader off the P3 to get some more slack in the clipping mechanism.

It's now mounted, fanless, running F@H, and @ 120*F and climbing very slowly, like 2*F/minute. However, it appears it may have stabilized @ 120; I'll have to wait a few minutes and see.

Passive cooling on a 1.5GHz Celeron. :D

Bleh. Well, it went up to 125, and at that point I put the fan back on. Now where'd I put that fanmate?

Ummmmm...look on the desk just to the right of your front left speaker kind of hidden behind your monitor...no, no, no...over there...

125 doesn't seem to bad for passiv cooling. But only if it's stable. If it keeps rising i can understand i you want a fan.
